What is the fucking big deal about this fucking fundraiser
FR - We wanted to make a tribute to the real mythical creature that inspired our recent wind ancient, instead of having the wind ancient more closely resembling that mythical creature. To prevent us from profiting off of this cultural myth that we do not belong to, we will only release them in a method where FR gets zero profits and all proceeds are given to an associated charity.
You weirdos - UMMM actually this makes it so much worse and super racist!! You would have been better off NOT raising money for a charity that has some actual importance right now with the current political climate of American and for asian-americans who look like they could be an immigrant!! They MUST just be shielding for how racist they actually are! We MUST take the least charitable interpretation of a free-to-play website doing literal charity!
When people complain about the left and their trend of getting nothing done because it might be wrong, this is what they're fucking talking about.
The issue there is the FOMO for the item itself, but also the fact it's completely inaccessible to people who can't pay for whatever reason they may have. Not to mention the 90 day window for it before it retires.
They're doing this in the same breath as they are stating that the wind ancient is a gem breed, so... essentially profiting off of a cultural myth that they do not belong to, but we gave it paws instead of hooves.
They should've not made such a big deal about this whole fiasco imo. The fundraiser is pretty much just a slap in the face, reeking of "we care guyz we promise!! pls don't get angee at us"
why is FR not allowed to profit off of a design that they admit was inspired by a specific culture and made sure they did so in an appropriate and respectful way?
also completely inaccessible is such an exaggeration. it may not be purchasable with gems but players are 100% going to sell them for gems on the AH. why does FOMO matter when it's charity. FR isn't trying to trick you into giving them money. they don't get any of the money. they do not benefit from the FOMO in anyway shape or form. charity does.
imo theres a lot of FR players that are so fixated on past precedents that they are unable to accept or even listen to staff's stated changes, and this extends to stuff like this. did FR seriously mishandle past design and lore choices that relied on racist/ignorant tropes? absolutely, and i think most people wouldnt disagree with that. but it is mind-boggling that some people see FR staff taking industry-standard steps to improve on these mistakes and insist that it is doomed to fail (or somehow disingenuous??) because of poor decisions made years to over a DECADE ago. how dare people want to improve or make amends.
