Probably partly a response to all the whining about the mere existence of the ability to add alt text. Creating a site culture that is more accessible starts with being intentional about asking users to make use of accessibility tools. It's not weird, it's a pretty reasonable and obvious response to the whinging demonstrating that there's a culture problem.
its kind of weird though to just suddenly pick a random thread to tell people to use it. the "then this could be a 10/10 thread!" feels scolding, and if Aeq is going to do this, then she should be doing it in every thread with images without alt text, not randomly pick this one.
They have to start somewhere, there isn't a single thread they could've tried this response with that wouldn't resulted in "Well what about THIS thread huh???"-type response.
I think the invisibility cloak thread is more abstract than a typical dragon share thread. Rather than rattling off the basics within the context of FR (breed, element, colour/colour/colour, gene/gene/gene, wearing x set of apparel ect.), the dragons are removed altogether to create scenery and show off layering tricks, there's more visual story telling being used. Yes, ideally accessibility should be applied equally across all threads, but it's not some evil targeted attack if they start off with outliers.
wouldn't that be a misuse of the reporting system? bc there's no requirement to include alt text in the forum rules or whatever. like that seems like either an erroneous report where they should gently correct the report-er, or it could cross the line to attempted harassment for repeated reports of the same people/threads. and if there was harassment at play i don't imagine they'd go fulfill it by having someone comment on it
I don't know. If something like that happened, for all we know the person who reported did get in trouble, but Aeq decided to remind people about it as well, just in case people did forget.
Then again, reading the actual reply, it could just be that Aeq was reading the thread on her own, and decided to remind people that they can add alt images, especially in a thread like that one where the dragon is completely hidden.
why doesn't FR just add that to the share BBC code widget as an auto generated alt text? Most people I feel would just click on the share and not think about adding in the alt text to a post when sharing their dragon
Wouldn't need to be anything fancy, just something like [img alt="a |dragon color| |gender| |breed|"] -> a pink female fae
with a check if a dragon is wearing an invis cloak, and or has a silh scroll, is perma bab...etc.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)Because I am sure that there are absolutely some people that *would* report people not adding it in a thread full of images?
