I’m not East Asian— but am a POC— and I want representation of my culture so badly. I would love to see someone try to include it— even if they fumbled. Like it’s okay to say FR fumbled wording / execution but they are TRYING

also got to remember a good chunk of FR's userbase are minors and teenagers are just generally annoying lol. I certainly had some obnoxious takes on various forums I was on at those ages
Sorry but just no, nope - I think that saying that a good chunk of userbase are minors is an excuse for the truly shitty behavior because any time I visit some random vocal user's profile, they are very often an adult (if age is written) or I can infer that they must be an adult (like, 5 year old account, minimum age 13, they must be 18 at least).

I feel like there's definitely an asshole phase between 18-25. I was 100% a little shit between 20-24. (I'm talking, I was a /b/tard levels of asshole, and I am not proud of that, but it is what it is.)
It's a subject that's come up with friends before, and just about all of us agreed that at that age, we were edgy or an asshole, or a smug nihlist, etc. But growing out of that phase just came with being an adult- you kinda just grow out of being an edgelord because having bills and a job tends to change your perspective and priorities.
Some of us just... hold on to a bit of salt lol.

depends on what you define as "truly shitty", yeah an unfortunate amount of brainrot takes I've seen I know to be made by adults, I was moreso referring to the forums and discord and the sort of whiny behavior I've seen there, I'm sure a lot of people whining about the upcoming fam costing money are minors, which would make sense because most probably wouldn't have an income of their own
like I've fully left all of the major fr discord servers because they're clearly full of minors. which isn't surprising but I don't want to socialize in a space full of kids. unless this demographic has somehow changed since. but I wouldn't know because I, well, left them all.
No, no FR needs to disclose the full legal name and home address of everyone they hire so that nonny can determine if their blood and upbringing is pure enough to .........do the job they were hired to do.

l = r in Japanese (seriously I've seen stuff from native Japanese mixing the two all the time). Not like either letter actually exists in Japanese anyway, all romanization is a compromise.
It does feel, as you put it, "white guilt-y", but I don't think it's performative or intended to be condescending. I think staff has just been burned by the type of fanbase FR has cultivated in the last decade one too many times and are playing it safe. (From their perspective. I think they're damned if they do and damned if they don't and am not sure I would have handled this the way they did, TBH.)
Yeah I definitely think they should have been like "here's our new kirin inspired dragon :)" (and MAYBE thrown in the bit about working with a cultural sensitivity expert?) and left it at that.

what's the point of a dragon dress up game if we only get a new species to dress up every 3+ years.
because the trade-off would either be less apparel options or changing all the dragon poses to something boring and static that they can easily draw apparel on to.

If I see ONE more person describe aethers as having "pug faces" I will EXPLODE. Pugs don't have trouble breathing because flat face bad otherwise humans would struggle, they cant breathe well because dogs have long muzzles and humans squished it! Unless you think aethers were made to suffer theres no reason their breathing system wouldn't be made to work with their face! I know the arcanist lore wise historically has had some bad ideas but I'm LOOSING IT
Understatement, ages 18-24 are the prime time for assholery, because you're still in the mindset of "I'm an adult now I'm mature!" but the maturity is being a dick or edgelord.

NAYRT Huge agree. This "people can only write about their experiences" nonsense leads to POC not getting their experiences represented. Or only being allowed in as tokens (see: the entire publishing industry patting itself on the back about how diverse it is even though many of the authors of color are forced to write only stories related to their culture).
I would be delighted to see my culture represented in FR even if they made some mistakes. I'll take them and their sincerity any day over racists who are more interested in virtue signaling about how my culture can never be depicted properly so they shouldn't even bother.

it really is impressive how FR is one of the last remaining games with an active forum culture and yet the players make me want to avoid it
i was the target on a lot of salt blogs when i was a minor multiple years ago, and want to pick the game up again because there's so much new content. is it even worth it or is the site and community still "you did this thing years and years ago!!! you must get the death penalty!! why has staff not banned you yet??"
obviously, i have grown up, and do not want to be anything like how i was in the past, and i have mellowed out quite a lot and matured. it just feels LONELY! i know no one else who plays this game anymore. it's been years since i even looked at ARR or SMT either until now
should i just start over from 0? i had a couple of nice doubles and near triples. i would feel bad about abandoning my account considering i have emotional attachment to those dragons, but at this point i'd rather try to integrate into any community to find friends...

I genuinely do not believe anyone would remember. I personally forget about most of the names that pop up on here basically as soon as I read them. If all you did was be annoying then don't let that stop you from reactivating your old account. Anyone that still holds a grudge against you for that is saying more about themselves at this point
