absolutely flabbergasted that some players 1) seem completely blind-sided by the idea that a lot of those guests were bots and 2) that FR was somehow safe from said bots and therefore also immune to having data scraped from it?
like the first one is not a new thing at all? bots have always made up a large portion of "guest" populations on sites that track that sort of thing (people had guest trackers on early Tumblr ffs). and the fact that certain players somehow thought their writing/artwork was safe from being scraped on fr when sites with way more robust financing can't manage that is?? alarming???
like we already knew FR got scraped once before already due to FR dragons showing up in GenAI works.

Nonny, we’re not dismissing it, we’re just not taking responsibility for another site’s actions. Or for managing the trauma that results. If a player has complex emotional and mental health issues surrounding a pixel petsim saltblog, the best thing they can do for their mental health is probably to stay away from pixel petsim saltblogs. This isn’t a critical service. We’re not providing food or shelter or medical attention or mental health support. We’re a group of salty little beasts bitching about people formatting posts in stupid ways. Staying away from here doesn’t even stop you from playing the base game, and in fact it probably will improve the experience of the game.
This is how some parts of the G1 community are. They just want what you have so they try to snuggle up with you in hopes of you giving into into giving what they want over time. And when you don't give them what they want or do something that offends them and their grandiosity, Prepare to face hell. That's why there is so much drama in that community. Narcissists running around amok on a dragon pet site. Of course, not all collectors are like this, there are perfectly reasonable and kind people with really fancy collections, but too many of them are and that's why I left the community a while ago.
Two things can be true: It's bad to bully any person, including minors. Random assholes on the internet are not responsible for anyone else's mental health, including minors. Adults are responsible for themselves and parents are responsible for minors if they have not successfully learned to take that responsibility. I'm so glad that most of my online communities are explicitly adult-only because it prevents the problem of kids (or adults) pulling the "but I'm literally a minor" card when they can't manage their own selves and want someone else to do it for them.
Nah randomly accusing strangers that they're bullies from a decade ago deserves to get dismissed.

TL;DR Assholes are always going to exist, that is why it is up to each individual to take responsiblity for their own wellbeing.

Random assholes are responsible for the consequences, but good luck tracking them down and making them *take* responsiblity. Plus, there are *always* going to be random assholes. They existed in 2001 when I was modding Morrowind and putting those mods up, and they exist today. They existed before that as well.
Which brings me to the second part: If you let these assholes affect you to the point you no longer enjoy something, that is a you problem. If you are constantly going onto sites you know are populated by these assholes, that is a you problem. YOU also have a responsiblity to take responsiblity for your own actions.
It can be hard to ignore them, I know. But, that is what they WANT. That is often why they ARE being assholes, because they *want* that reaction. That is why each person must take responsiblity for their own mental wellbeing, and parents/guardians need to take responsiblity for the minors in their care. Because the assholes aren't going to go away and when they get the reaction they want, they are validated.
There are so many options now to deal with them, mostly to do with blocking and just scrolling past. Someone says something you don't like, block and move on, and/or scroll past.
If you can't take seeing salt about you, don't go on a salt blog. If you can't take people disagreeing or being rude, then I am sorry, don't post on the internet. Because in most cases, it is guaranteed that you are going to get someone who will come in and be rude, just because they can or because they really hate your opinion.

Nonny we’re saying WE’RE NOT THOSE ASSHOLES. Those assholes exist. They should absolutely be called out. But since the world is not perfect, all the rest of us need to learn how not to let them ruin our lives. Saying “wow, this corner of the internet is full of assholes, I’m going to not come back here” is not letting them win. It’s depriving them of a victim.
