I’m assuming it’s PearlConnor/DrSheep, but that’s just a guess. I just remember them throwing fits and being one of those ‘Plague is being discriminated against!!!’ types when they didn’t like the festival apparel or skin rules or whatever, and they did change their username and apparently have a different host now. I don’t remember any cult stuff but I wouldn’t put it past them. They definitely riled people up a lot and used to get posted about a fair bit so I’m sure they’ve been blocked by a ton of people.
Actually going through some older SMR posts, I remember the cult shit now - there was a time when it was popular to make ‘cults’ on FRD (really just spammy threads/clubs, but it was mostly young kids making them so they called them cults), and PC was defending the cults when people would point out that it was maybe not a great thing to call your silly club a cult/staff started cracking down on people calling them that. They also tried to call for a riot against staff over the ROR festivals not being red enough or whatever.
Omg this is ringing a bell now that you mentioned the lack of red apparel for ROR, I think that must have been around when we got the bard apparel that was green?
I generally have a negative opinion about systems that behave like this, but this seems relatively harmless. Like I can understand why a lot of people blocked them, but ignoring the system part I would kind of just assume it was a kid who matured and realized how embarrassing their behavior was.
I thought it was about the bard apparel, but surprisingly, it looks like the whole ‘start a riot with me’ stuff they did was actually the next year over skin rules or something (though I think the bard thing was brought up in people’s complaints even then). A lot of people were being pretty dramatic, but PC/DS was VERY over the top about it.
That wasn’t the only thing they did that got them mass blocked though - they were pretty weird about the cult thing and I think people just found them irritating in general. That said, I’m of two minds about their desire to start over to get away from their past - on the one hand, people should be allowed to grow and change, and given they don’t get brought up anymore, I think it’s fair to say they have matured and don’t really cause problems now (to my knowledge). I can understand being frustrated when your past misdeeds keep affecting you even after you’ve learned from it and changed (or I guess in this case, if it wasn’t even the current ‘you’ who did those things). That said, I am also of the opinion that part of maturing and growing from past bad behavior is accepting there will always be some degree of lasting consequences - including socially, in that people who were around for that may not want anything to do with you going forward. And you have to respect that decision and their boundaries. So wanting to start over just to get around those blocks kind of rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe the real issue here is we don’t have a better blocking system that would allow a separation of ‘social blocks’ vs ‘full out can’t-even-buy-my-dragons’ blocks. I’m sure a lot of people just didn’t want to see their weird rants and behavior in the forums anymore and don’t actually care if they buy their stuff off the AH, which seems to be their main reason for wanting to start over.

So yeah, 99.9% has to be them.
