As someone who doesn't want to interact *consistently* with kids/early teens I agree that the DNI thing is weird – I just, you know, don't go into large discord servers that allow/cater to kids (disallowing swearing and whatnot) and don't post on forums too frequently aside business? It wouldn't hurt you if some 14yo asked you for your fodder or whatever. I get not wanting to constantly be surrounded by tweens but completely barring even minor interactions is kinda unhealthy.
Exactly this. Also everyone in this thread saying they don't want to interact with kids ever sounds like an old man who wandered into a teenager's yard and started yelling at the teenager to get off their lawn. Like YOU went to THEIR space, you can minimize interactions, but it's going to happen!
Except this isn't a kids space. It's a place that allows all ages 13+. There is a difference. One type, adults are considered unexpected, unwelcome, and creepy for being. The other, everyone is there and it's fine.
It's more akin to a mall or a public pool than a playground.
I wasn't the anon you were talking too. Sorry, lost my DA. I only took exception to claiming this is a game for teenagers, when it's for everyone. Just because everyone can play doesn't make it for teenagers.
Right? As someone who is (literally, not the online community) child free and without a lot of patience for teenage drama, even I'm a little weirded out. Teenagers are still people? On a site they're allowed on? You won't combust if you have a conversation with a 14 year old.
Less like walking into someone's lawn and more like I was a teenager when I started on FR and 9 years later I'm still here, now a fully fleshed grumpy adult :'(

(Anonymous) 2025-02-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)For what it's worth I'm a lot more comfortable talking to kids/teens in real life than online, as it's easier to maintain boundaries.
On the other hand, while I don't want to befriend any kids I really don't give a shit if a person dming me about a dragon is 13 or 80.
