Social media isn't a good experience literally ever actually. The way it's designed is inherently harmful. Look what it's done to society. Doesn't matter how much you curate it.

I've been having a great time sharing my art with a small circle of people and sharing my life with them for years now, so I'd say I'm having a good experience! Sorry for you & yours though.

My tumblr experience is good. I only follow photography and art blogs. No drama or brainrot there. You could argue that's no longer social media but it's still good for discovering new art.

I follow all my favorite A03 authors, so my tumblr feed is very fandom-heavy yet it's also drama-free: just ignore the algorithm pushed blogs and unfollow/block all the blogs that do try to start or share constant drama and it's perfectly fine even as social media. For reddit I also do not go into the algorithm made feeds, I just visit the four subreddits I like - also drama-free. So imo "all social media is rotten" is a skill issue - specifically, the (lack of) skill to ignore the algorithms and strength to curate your own experience.

tumblr also lets you block tags and even words in posts, and they haven't yet gotten rid of the "only people I follow" feed

your really can just block aggresively to your heart's content
