Not bad form at all, in my opinion. As an artist I like these types of threads because sometimes I will advertise in one and even if the OP doesn't choose me, a completely unrelated person will PM me and take me up on the commission. There are a lot of lurkers in that forum tho, so if it's not something you want a lot of eyes on I'd suggest against it.
