Happy Wednesday, everyone! While we’re waiting for the engineers to do their thing with today’s maintenance and update, we wanted to touch base with you ahead of time about accessibility and today’s update.
(1/6)
If you’re someone who is sensitive to moving lights, images, or colors online or if you just don’t like them, you have the option to force a setting globally, called prefers-reduced-motion, through your operating system:
(2/6)
☑️ Windows 10: Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Show Animations in Windows
☑️ MacOS: System Preferences > Accessibility > Display> Reduce Motion
(3/6) While not all websites respect the prefers-reduced-motion flag (yet), the update we’re launching today does! What’s especially helpful when you use this setting is that today's update will respect your motion preferences even when you’re logged out!
(4/6)
If you’re sensitive to such animations, this down time is a good time to set your global preferences.
There will also be a toggle in your Account Settings that will allow players to completely turn off the feature if needed or desired.
(5/6)
We’ll have more information about the level of individual control a player has with this feature for you when maintenance concludes.
Hmmm leaning towards Coli PVP, or maybe a Fairgrounds revamp? I can’t imagine many other places on the site where animation makes sense (besides adventure mode, which we know it isn’t.) I guess it could also be Maps but I can’t imagine what more could be done with that.
I think theyre kinda fun, but I don’t know how often I’ll use them - a lot of them are pretty overwhelming or significantly change the color of the dragon/apparel (I was excited about the ghost ones until I saw how much it changed my dragon). But I like the Butterfly one and hope we get more like that - it would be a nice alternative to apparel on ancients (though I’m still a big supporter of foreground items to get things like flower falls and such on them, but I won’t turn down more options).
I initially thought this would be a neat compromise for ancients being unable to wear apparel until I saw there's a few apparel-only effects (including the freebie 💀)
i really dislike how these look tbh. the only one i like is the butterfly one and that's just because its basically apparel. it just feels so jarring on the dragon, especially the sun and moon one like what even is the in-universe explanation for a dragon being a scrolling wallpaper like that?
This one's a miss for me. Three versions of holographic, one that makes cloth apparel glint like metal, and effects so strong they completely obscure the dragon's genes, accent, and/or clothes.
Interesting concept but I think I'll be giving this one a pass.
It's an eh for me - I like the idea but the execution (at least right now) just screams to me 'all of our devs and testers have three feet wide ultra 4k monitors'. They just look awkward and stylistically "off" on my small and not the best laptop screen.
I like this update a lot! There's definitely some really cool ways to completely change your dragon with these. It's honestly really refreshing. There's only so many ways to customize a dragon png so I'm glad they're experimenting more. I do wish they could stack. Ghost dragon + ghost apparel would be cool. Right now the ghost apparel by itself is a cloudy mess.
I had the kneejerk 'no I hate it and it's dumb' reaction but I also had that reaction with vistas, scenes, eyes and ancients so instead of getting pissy I'm going to get excited over being able to put stars on my shade dragon. Don't know how often I will use these but will be exciting to see what new effects get released in the future!
update has animation?
