Oooohh have fun!! My tips would be go get food for lunch either slightly earlier or slightly later than you would normally eat (ex. 11:30am or 2pm), because there will probably be a rush with long lines otherwise. Also, have some cash on hand if you plan to buy souvenirs! I've been to a few where not all vendors accepted cards.
try to pack some snacks/water if you can! sometimes there's water stations, but it's still good to bring your own imo.
if you expect to buy smaller things, definitely bring a bag! i've seen people accidentally drop sticker sheets or charms that they bought just because having to carry small things like that can be troublesome lol.
if you're at a place with cosplayers and you want to ask for a picture, try to get their attention without touching them! not everyone likes to be touched. a lot of cosplayers love to be asked for photos btw so don't be shy! :)
oh and: (if the convention you're at has them) if you're looking at vendor/artist stands and you're unsure about something/want to come back later, write down or ask the vendor/artist what their stand number/aisle number is so you can refer to a map and find them later. i've done the "i'll come back later" thing when i'm deciding if i want to buy something, but i didn't remember where they were, so i spent a good 30+ minutes trying to find them again LOL
and i guess a small note, if you're looking at a vendor stand that is selling/reselling official merchandise (or even games or books), pricecheck it online on ur phone or something to make sure you're getting a good deal! usually they're fair but sometimes i see figurines and stuff that has an absurd price...
I would check online what booth/vendors you absolutely 100% you want to check out and what times/days they are open, because once you are in it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the options!
if you are going with other people agree where and when to meet up before you split up
also wear comfy clothes and shoes, and check that your phone has a full battery/has data for calling or texting and that you have enough storage for photos and videos
ideally, if you are carrying cash, try to not keep it all together in the same places on your person, only pull out what you will need to pay at each stop/vendor so you are not flashing all the money you have
Mask. Not just because covid, but con crud, and it sucks. My friend gets it every year, even with masking, and she's miserable every time. Bring masks, hand sanitizer and Alka seltzer cold/flu tablets, bevause they work QUICK for agonizing congestion in case you get sick during the con, or right before your trip home.
SA Thanks for all the tips!! I just got home from the weekend and it was soooo fun, despite me feeling very old for a lot of it lol I ended up doing a cosplay yesterday and had a really positive experience despite zero people recognizing the character this will definitely not be my last!!
