I am curious how people discovered places like ARR & SMR. Personally I didn't discover them until like a year after I started because someone in a discord server I'm in vaguely mentioned seeing a post on a "certain tumblr blog" their wording made me investigate further out of curiosity. I came across ARR afterwards when seeing someone in replies mention it. I don't really use SMR that much anymore because I'm not really a tumblr person but I do frequent here for news and drama

I made ARR because AR's mods had things like work, school or Covid interfere (or they were chased off)

I found the original AR through the OG Plague discord back in the day, though.

I think someone mentioned the original AR in failfandom_anon, way back in the day. And then I migrated here when it died off.

I think my introduction was pretty similar, someone either vaguely mentioned in a discord or I saw DRR mentioned in a tumblr post and went from there. I remember being horrified that I was reading posts about artists who trace/didn't complete comms/etc and seeing that they don't even name the player except by initial 😭 (coming from other online art communities) Still think that rule is dumb, but understand more when I see the stupid shit people complain about on SMR sometimes.

AR/ARR I didn't find until later, not until around when SMR became more established. Never went back, it's so much easier to talk about stuff here

I was on PostSecret way back when. Then found out about Fandom!Secrets, which leads me to SimSecret, which lead me to believe any decently-sized communities will have 'salt spaces', as you had labeled them. Slightly different formats, ofc, but still the same idea.

So yeah. Pretty much from right when I started FR back in 2014. Back in my day there's no such thing as a 're'-rising lmao

I was there for the creation and downfall of them. The week that the artist signature post broke containment and the OG dramarising blog was swarmed with suicide baiting and doxx threats was a wild one. o7

dear artists breaking containment was the death of the OG dramarising for sure. the blog could not escape people sending it hate mail from that post because it got so far outside of the FR bubble. it was so wild to watch

can someone explain the dear artists post to me, i only heard about it but never saw it

you can definitely still find iterations of it on tumblr, because it got reblogged so many times, but essentially it was this ask someone sent into the OG dramarising that can be summed up as "Fuck you artists, I do not want your signature on my commissions and I will, in fact, erase it." and it was named "Dear Artists"

now obviously anyone who knew what dramarising was knew that the post did not come from the blog owners themselves. however, for some reason this post broke containment beyond what anyone had ever seen before and tons of people swarmed dramarising to reply to it who didn't even know what Flightrising was. very likely the reason the OG dramarising shut down.

I'd initially found DRR because that Purble post kept making it's rounds and I'd gotten curious and I'd apparently *just* missed the complete meltdown of the og DR blog by about a few days. By the time I'd found it it was gone. From there I'd heard mention of the og AR (and then later here) and then SMR was made during a DRR dead spell because they had been having issues with running it or something.

Now the two, SMR and here, are really the only ones left active. DRR still updates once in a blue moon with one or two posts but it's much like before.... and any others I've heard of have died.

I do bemoan that the DRR guy allows all sorts of bigoted bait to go through, but that is on-brand with the original DR. Whoever was running DR just posted everything ever submitted.

think I might've told this story before but idr if it was here or just on the previous AR so: it was actually kind of the other way around for me, I first found out about FR from it coming up in the offtopic threads at rpanons back in like, july 2013... and those same threads were what led directly to the creation of AR's predecessor (flightanons), so I guess you could say I've been around since the very beginnings of salt? :P

I can't really remember, but I participated in the FR community on tumblr around 2015-2016 and I think the Rhea drama was what eventually led me to salt spaces.

probably years, i was very inconsistently active for a while. i think i came across a SMR tumblr post and eventually wound up here. not new to drama comms tho, i've dabbled in other fandom drama comms. this one is quite tame and pleasant tbh.

About a month in (11 years ago), I was spamming the Lightning forums to try and get 1000 posts when the current mod was basically inactive. Someone screen capped and posted on SMR, and then the friend who introduced me to the game sent it to me. I wrote a poem about how angry I was, and made it my clan profile.
