If someone changes their name to "NameChange" with a bunch of random numbers, do you think that means they are self reporting as a multi? Or know they are gonna get banned or some shit? Someone who messaged me a week ago suddenly changed their name to that and I'm genuinely curious.

I think that's something staff does when a user has an inappropriate name

I don't know about deliberately doing it, but I know that when staff changes rule-breaking names they change them to namechange and a bunch of numbers.

Their user name wasn't inappropriate or rule breaking (at least I can't find a reason it would be) it was one of those people who try to be minimalist and have 1 short word as their UN. It would be ironic if it was rule breaking because it literally was just Rule lol

SA I did just read their profile comments and apparently they got their old account closed for multi accounting so idk. Could be they did it again lol some people never learn

I recall an instance of this happening some years back to someone when they got banned for having signed up while under 13yrs old, their name wasn't rulebreaking otherwise and they were from the US iirc.

I'm not sure why exactly staff does this to some accounts (outside of bad names ofc) and not to others despite similar ban reasons

I wouldn't put it beyond a player to change their own UN prior to a prospective ban but that particular format is the one staff uses.

Yeah, the only reason staff would change the username to "NameChanged###" is if they sign up under the age of 13 or their nickname is inappropriate. It's most likely the former. It's not legal for flight rising to collect the information of anyone under the age of 13, and so even if they're no longer under the age of 13 but had an account then, staff wipes it.

If they're not in the US they may also have requested their account be scrubbed. I know the UK (and some other places?) has "right to be forgotten" laws that mean if someone wants their stuff wiped it has to be done. Iirc staff will namechange the account as part of it to avoid leaving that person's username attached to anything.

Personally I did change the name of my previous account to number spam before self-reporting it so that is possible

I also changed my name when self-reporting so that was my first thought tbh
