Their terts are incredible and even a lot of the older primaries and secondaries looks wonderful on them.
Also, if I see ANYONE say that they aren't elegant (because they're fat), I'm sending a curse upon their houses. The female pose especially looks stunning and is oozing charisma.
Send me a curse then, bro, as babies and the male look lovely but the female's belly appears to be drawn from a late-term pregnancy diagram - she's about to ooze something more than charisma
It's fine if you think they're ugly because, well, yeah, not everyone is going to find these kinds of designs appealing. But take a look at any of the preview discussion threads. There's FAR too many people who saw a chubby tail and went "Oh, but I wanted an ELEGANT and PRETTY breed for the first ever Light ancient" as if the designs couldn't possibly be either of those things. I've seen people offsite and in discord groups going on and on about how something so potentially inelegant could ruin the flight's aesthetic. I'm overweight myself and all the comments from yesterday, even from my own friends, have been rubbing me the wrong way.
I'm sorry for wording that horribly, genuinely, I got a bit too excited for these guys I think haha. I personally find them to be gorgeous, especially with those terts. But to each their own!
Yeah shit like this is so... :/ I know it's just a silly dragon game with little impact on our real lives but it is a bit jarring to be reminded how much people will just, be so weird about fatness.
Seriously. The number of comments with the words "bloated," "pregnant," "burst" etc.
All because it's not the hound-like silhouette in proportion. Reminds me of how when people draw "fat" characters they still make sure that the waist is proportional.

Like... There's elegance in more than just Light, for one thing. Ice and Water and Shadow and Wind all come to mind for me in terms of having a certain elegance, and that's not getting super creative.
I used to gently roll my eyes at the accusations of fatphobia, like a year ago, but between Dusties and now that we have a truly fat and not-"proportional" dragon these fuckers are coming out of the woodwork to show me that I was wrong.
DA also I think people are forgetting just how clunky a lot of old light apparel was. Light is not solely the delicate filigree flight. I feel like you'd be hard-pressed to call the Sunguard Chestplate or even the Sunchaser Jewelry "elegant".
Saethuryx has a good point in the "Anyone else disappointed" thread: "it's probably because they're new and don't have a historical lore entry that solidly links them with Light's existing story."

Adjacent to all these good points, it was the playerbase that decided Light was angel themed, not the staff. Staff sort of fed into it with some of their fest picks, but like... clunky apparel is right! Light has always been a bit horror-ish, a bit round, etc.
YEP Like I will toss them the bone that there are some angel-ish light items... like the halo, but EVERY flight got a halo and also what else do you do for a light halo. in fact they made it jagged in a way that is expressly Not a round angelic halo
but people have massively overblown the focus on angelic aesthetics, and expecting a straight up ""biblically accurate"" angel was setting themself up for disappointment
Right? Especially given that'd be referencing a real religion, which again, staff tolerates for fest skins and UMAs, but I can't see them doing it for a whole dragon breed.
There are absolutely legitimate reasons to dislike the Everlux (i.e. people have mentioned their poses being difficult to read) but when people literally call them disgusting and say that they wish they "were thinner and not a fat worm" it's easy to see that people are way too comfortable showing that they equate fatness and grossness

But elegant is not the words I'd use for something with tiny stick legs attached to a caterpillar body.
