Oh lol. Ultimately harmless hyperbole but definitely points to them being very, very young

NAYRT

I took a look at one of their dragons and it had something like 'exalters should die' or similar.

Yes, they are young, but honestly, if they are *that* young, they do NOT need to be on FR, they *really* need to learn not to use things like that as hyperbole on a public website (because, in their case, it could be hyperbole, if they truly are very young, but that doesn't mean it is all hyperbole)

I also would argue that it is NOT 'harmless' because that type of language should NOT be 'normalized' or deemed 'okay' when talking to strangers. I don't really care how young the user is.

That said, I feel this is a case for the admins to handle, not users. (except through reporting)

Could just report some of the comments and mention how they seem very young?

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that yet another transphobe would turn out to be a total dumbass!!

In all seriousness, when people fall down the rabbit hole of culture war nonsense, to the point that they feel like erasing some pronouns from a bio is an act of righteousness, they're already on a crusade in their own minds and any correction or contradiction is going to bounce right off them because it comes from the wrong type of people. This fool has already convinced themself that they're fighting the good fight, and as soon as the suspension is over they're going to do some new dumb shit, brag about it, and speedrun getting banned. All while having learned nothing because they're too busy drinking that gender war koolaid to think about how wrong they are.

Fr’s age limit is 13 and a lot of Internet-raised post-COVID kids have terrible online manners. Where are they supposed to learn?

Yeah, they’re young dumb and cringe, and someone needs to tell them to not talk about dying/killing people. But that’s really consistent with what I see and hear from big popular YouTubers and also the mainstream gaming community.

This child is so young oh my goodness. If you read through their post history its apparent just how young they are, spelling errors galore and they type in a very juvenile way. I'd really bet they're below 13, they come across as SO young ;-; someone protect this child.

i got this impression especially when i started seeing bios where dragons loved pooping or eating poop. that's stuff kids usually stop finding funny once they hit 10 (not always, but usually).

(Anonymous) 2024-10-26 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so... what do we do? How do we report this without them outright saying they're under 13? Presumably outright asking their age is against the rules.

Re: bananapoo and friends

(Anonymous) 2024-10-26 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah ultimately the user base can't really do anything unless they somehow slipped up and explicitly said their age, we can't get them banned based on assumptions. Honestly given their prior behavior wouldn't surprise me if they end up suspended for something else in the future lol

Re: bananapoo and friends

(Anonymous) 2024-10-26 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm... with that in mind, and with how this probably a child potentially not even out of the single digits... would it be right for ARR to put a soft ban on salt about them? Feels a little bad as a bunch of adults grousing about a small child we can do nothing about

Re: Vissyn

(Anonymous) 2024-10-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi Anon! Vissyn, posting again. You're absolutely correct in thinking that if someone were to add the quotation marks around my words I'd be fine with it. It is an extra step, so I don't ask for that at all. I also don't ask for people to stop pinging me unless I'm fully ready to go I've said my part, and don't wish to add anymore input.

Going to add a little more, since it's still salt apparently, however mild. I do have multiple reasons for not wanting to be quoted. Folks are complicated and can have more than one reasoning for a thing. I keep the emotional take away from the site because FR is not indeed my personal blog. I never wanted to bring that side of my life to the site. Anxiety, and ADHD, since I may as well out my own mental health issues at this point, are not a crutch for my actions, although I'm hopeful they explain some? I'm working on that. Thank you to the other anons who also offered helpful suggestions. I'll try seeing what I can do with those.

The quotes consistently nesting onsite are difficult to follow, especially if there's folks who do quote back and forth and don't bother to edit the quotes. It makes keeping track of who said what extremely difficult, particularly with how Flight Rising does it. I'm actually curious as to what this sounds like for individuals using screen readers honestly. Is it like, Quote so and so said, quote so and so 2 said, and so on.

It's not to yeet myself from accountability. If I wanted to entirely yeet myself from what I said, I'd have already edited that thread to remove the words and leave a blank spam post. I have not. I'm actually kind wishing for the OP of that thread to post it anew, so I can ignore it this time.

I find some of the anons seem to be assuming the worst of me. I can't change their mind or anything, but my inbox is open if anyone really has questions? I dislike the spotlight, and was debating posting this at all, but decided to before fully just stepping back into lurk mode.

surely I'm not the only one not fully sold on this person being young? They read to me like a troll... so I assumed it was just someone having fun lol

anyhow, you're right - I don't think the userbase can do anything about it other than what another anon in the thread suggested, reporting some comments (the kill ones maybe?) and saying "this person sounds a bit too young", see if staff looks at it more or not...

Re: Vissyn

to sate your curiosity, screen readers don't read out the code of what's going on; it only tells you exactly what is visible on the screen. it will read the sentence or paragraph that you hover over.

for example, if you hover over the header of a quote, it will read "[USERNAME] wrote on [DATE] [TIME]" and end there. you then have to hover over the quoted text for it to be read to you.

in fact, quotes HELP visually impaired people know when parts of a post aren't the poster's words but instead from others who have talked by having high contrast colours that separate it from the rest of the post. using screen readers on FR is extremely easy and clear, and quotes don't cause problems; neither do posts containing multiple quoted sections. it's highly accessible and super easy to follow (until you get to images that don't have alt text, but that's not the program nor staff's fault if users aren't using alt text).

tl;dr: quotes are accessibility tools for the visually impaired.

hit comment too early-

however if they're just a kid and not knowing any better... targeted reporting would be a really shit thing for the community to do. I think letting them be is the best option here, bananapoo seems harmless if not a bit annoying

Re: bananapoo and friends

Problem is if they are under 13, it's a legal thing for FR. It'd be shit for people to harrass them, but there's some cover-your-ass here for FR if they someday do prove they're under 13.

WHHHHHHYYYYYY are Eliminates in the 350g+ range again nooooo. Started a new account (requested staff ban my old one and they did, not multi-ing) and I don't have a coli stoned dragon yet :(

Probably because there was a battle last week. The fodder floor is still pretty high too. Prices also tend to go up right before a fest too, and RoR is tomorrow.

There are a lot of programs to help new players get trainers though, mostly in-flight but some OOF giveaways and raffles too. Good luck with your new account!

Yeah I bought a level 25 dragon, it's just the Elim and other stones I need for them. I don't play FR super actively anymore so I'm a bit reluctant to rent a dragon from anyone since it's very possible I'll forget about it

My point is that if they are under 13, then FR isn't the place for them, both for FR's sake (as it is a legal thing for them) and for BP's sake (as they could be more likely to get into the 'wrong' group, IE some of the people that have had salt about them, and simply not knowing better)

Yes, they have to learn somewhere, but FR isn't the place for that, nor is the internet itself.

It is that mainstream gaming community that makes me say they *do not need* to be where they can be exposed to that. I am a long time gamer, and I *hate* parts of the online gaming community and how normalized certain things are, and any pushback against it tends to be framed as people being 'prudes' or 'against fun' because they don't like certain actions or having slurs being tossed at them.

However, I also agree that if they are really young, since the community can't do anything but report and try to intimate that they seem to be too young to be online, probably shouldn't have more about them posted.

They’ve just crept up over time.

I’d recommend finding a pre-stoned dragon, you can usually get one for 250-300g and it’ll have everything you need.
