The thing is not everyone wants to be proactive in reaching out for an invite no matter how easy it seems to you. 90% of people online are lurkers who never actively participate. By requiring that these people ask for invites and have active profiles that are considered to be “good enough” when vetted, you’re driving tons of people away.
no i think it's unfortunately like this in any fandom that gets more than a few crumbs of attention. it's why i never interact with anyone beyond small conversation and have entirely different alts for each of my interests, if the choice to just remain completely anonymous (like here) isn't available. not that i really engage in anything unusual or generally considered problematic, i just wouldn't touch most of the other people in the fandoms i'm in with a ten foot pole

Yeah, it's weird how the exact same thing plays out every time. At some point they need to take some personal responsibility and get some new people in so they can step down and deal with whatever IRL issues they apparently keep getting overwhelmed by. People expect dom leads to actually do their jobs properly, to be very blunt. The flight is gonna bleed out more dom-focused members at this rate.

There's definitely a lot of closed servers, but that doesn't mean public fandom activity has stopped.
Like- the server I'm in has done two events this year so far. One for a week with a prompt for every day, and this current one is for the summer, with bingo cards of prompts!
We worked on the event as a small group in the server, but we're also posting the fic, art, etc on tumblr, twitter and AO3- and it's open to anyone who wants to participate, as we set up a bingo card randomizer, and our AO3 collection and tumblr tag are open for submissions, etc.
Fandoms WANT more people participating, especially since as of late, they tend to die off after a year or so when the hype from the movie is gone, or the show ended. People don't "commit" to fandoms like they used to (exceptions being Star Trek and Star Wars, they're OG fandoms that will never die).
So yeah, there's small servers to provide safe places to chat without trolls, but the main BULK of fandom creation still happens on Tumblr/AO3.

I have a different experience. Some of my fandoms still have plenty of activity on Tumblr, but there's at least two where people rarely share any fic and art outside the locked down discord, and this is because the harassment towards authors and artists of publicly posted works has gotten so, so bad. I'm not surprised that things have moved in this direction. I'm glad ao3 has an anonymous option so some people are still willing to post some things for lurkers outside of the discord community, but I also understand why a lot of people don't.

I can understand feeling left out if you don't want to reach out to try and gain access to the content and events happening in those communities, but I also don't think that artists in locked servers owe you access to their work, especially if posting it where lurkers can find it puts them at risk of harassment. "Good enough" in this context usually means that you haven't publicly sent anyone death threats on Twitter, or are mutuals with people that do. If you aren't "good enough" by that standard then maybe these discord fandom communities aren't a good fit for you.

It would inevitably eventually turn into harassment, or people trying to use my blog as a platform to harass other people. I haven't been active on Tumblr for over a year now, to be fair, so maybe the worst of it died down? Going by the comments here, probably not.
Seeing a wall of hate in the character or ship tag every time I checked was one of the reasons I left too. It wouldn't bother me so much if the people spamming the tag were just expressing their opinion about a character, but more often that not it would get used as a jumping off point to justify really aggressive bullying, or tying to convince the rest of the fandom that you were abusive if you liked or made fluff fic of the character they personally didn't like. I don't actually mind someone sincerely talking their dislike for a character, even if it's a little overboard! It's just that it never stopped at that.

No, but personally, I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt a little longer since the reason for their commissions as stated on that thread is 'hospital bills,' so if that's true and really the case, it's very possible that RL health problems are keeping them busy. It's not a good look for them either way, and by no means am I saying that not communicating is correct or that they shouldn't at least try to log on to post a quick "Hey, sorry, RL is hard atm, you haven't been forgotten!"
That said, ghosting people to steal their money is such a serious accusation that, for me personally at least, I'd probably want to wait a little longer before making that conclusion. (Not jumping to it, because I don't think it's an unreasonable take or anything and there's nowhere else to contact them, but I'd personally still wait longer.)
Depending on how long paypal/kofi's policies on refunds are though, might be worth starting a ticket with them sooner than later to keep them appraised of the situation so that you don't get timelocked out of a potential refund if princecats never shows back up.

sorry to bring up wolf site but anyone here seeing the shit show the newest update brought? tl;dr the thing most people are pissed off at is the implementation of a referral rewards system that 1. does not let you retroactively refer people and 2. having exclusive companions as rewards. idgaf either way but people were absolutely up in arms about it on the discord and theres like 4 threads in the pvp forums. the devs cant do a damn thing without a portion of the userbase throwing a fit.

I just read that update, and will say that I personally was disappointed, because I have come to hate referrer rewards programs.
They really only benefit people who have large friend groups, or who are more social. Which means that people who don't have a large friend group (or ones who don't want to play a site like lorwolf, or whatever game it is) lose out on the exclusive rewards.
I prefer how FR does it, where it is lowkey and only really benefits you if the person you referred buys gems, or just not having one at all.

This is a discussion on SMR right now but I don't quite care for the community that posts there so I wanted to bring it up here as it's a better platform for discussion.
Once you notice all dragons except like 2 are dog/cat body and legs with reptile necks/tails it's hard not to notice. There are limitations to dragon breeds such as having to have enough blank space for genes so scale detail is limited so I do take that into account, but things like bogsneaks having mammalian back legs when they're otherwise a komodo dragon bodied is very strange and sticks out.
I see a lot people wanna straw man others who want more variety with "oh what, you want a million heads and tentacles and eldritch angel eyes" when really it's just... Something that isn't mammal body with reptile neck/tails and extra stuff.
Also more big fat dragons would be nice.

They really painted themselves into a corner with the whole "Modern breeds have to have 4 legs and one pair of wings" standard they set for themselves.
