ayrt I'm so glad you like her stuff!! I just find her so interesting because she's commenting on modern issues/activism but with the weight of all her decades of activism experience (as well as being from a non-Western background) so her opinions are often fresh and not always even in line with modern social justice norms (which I find refreshing).

he who can't be named sold their gen1 imp for an extremely low price. it looked like a manic sell-off. ysdaar was able to afford it since they've had the gems on hand. HWCBN sold their gen1 imp for the lowest a gen1 imp has sold in years iirc.
the lowest a gen1 imp has sold in years? now if that doesn't scream RMT, i don't know what does.

Whoa.
mythicalviper_fr and 888, in case you had any concerns about posting this on the site, please know that you’re in the clear to post this very thorough guide on the skin and accent contest—as based on your personal observations and contest experiences—on the Flight Rising website itself. There are a lot of new and developing artists on the site who aren’t on Tumblr and may find it helpful!"
second response:
" Maybe this post will be immediately outdated as staff reads it and changes how the festival decisions are made.
From what I can tell, all that you've done here is:
- Remind folks that winning submissions become official festival items highlighted on our front page; the expectations are higher.
- Call attention to the words we've used ourselves in the contest guidelines/posts and how we've described the Flights.
- Shared your own observations and personal experiences of submissions vs winning submissions.
In other words, none of this information is hidden or secret. We're quite impressed with the overall attention and care to detail here—not only to the submissions that won, but also to the contest guidelines and established lore. We hope the guide you've both put together helps the young and growing artists in our community!"

Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)I think part of the point of the guide was to show that there is a way to game the system, and thus to point out that maybe staff should broaden their view of what festival wins should be like, but it seems in these replies that staff is doubling down on wanting only the site-enforced flight aesthetics for the festivals. Sad, but sort of expected.
Seriously, pronouns, gay, transgender, and similar are reasonable.

Honestly, I'd like to see it on the site as it's too easy to lose stuff on Tumblr.

Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)yeah, 888 pointed out that they hoped different entries would start winning after staff saw the post. i'm worried that if MV posts their guide on the forums the way mousemod suggested, people are going to see it and think only skins that follow these guidelines can win. then we'll get even less variety than before :/ we get some funky ones every month that don't follow any of the rules they listed and they're pretty much the best ones every time (thinking of that stonecarver abberattion and the deer pearlcatcher from last year)
if they scare people off from making those sorts of entries we're going to get bland recycled concepts year after year
if they scare people off from making those sorts of entries we're going to get bland recycled concepts year after year
yeah thats it. 1.2 mill on the lower end.
Alyxsandre is an absolute douche. they've taken so many lil' subcultures of FR and tried to enforce their rules to be how everyone should enjoy playing. naomi, glitches, two letter. alyx has dipped their cunty fingers into it all. they don't like a lineage or dragon fame it ain't worth it and they will publicly throw passive aggressive posts around.
Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)honestly my owly "frustration" with MV's repeat wins is that they have a very distinctive/specific style, which while quite pretty, doesnt have a ton of variation with their winning skins. i really like the fest skins that touch on unique or otherwise underappreciated aspects of a flight so im really hoping that people's outcomes on this arent "make generic, regurgitated stuff to win" rather than MV's intended "try different things and learn from it" message
i also hope that FR admins can try to accept more variety for fest skins in general, with a post like this that outlines ways in which frequent participants have learned to game the system. theres always a bunch of really high quality submissions on infrequent breeds that dont win and it's disappointing to see. while "art skill issue" is a big factor, theres definitely a lot of people playing by the invisible rules and still losing.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)hmm, i suppose "being scared off" is a possibility for people with low confidence and/or high bandwagon mentality, but i'm pretty sure one of the points MV & 888 are making is that the best way to win is to do something that sets your entries apart. they're not telling people to "stay inside the box." they're literally saying "look at what people AREN'T doing and try to serve up some of that with your element-relevant concepts."
successful art contest winners sharing the steps they took to get there & the patterns they've noticed along the way isn't to blame for uninspired/recycled concepts lol

Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)that's kind of the point they were making though. there's a lot of really high quality entries, but they don't win because they're not relevant to the theme
Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)i'm glad staff responded - both to say that they appreciate the effort & thought put into the writeup, and to clarify that it's rule-complying/site-acceptable relevant information. essentially, "very cool that you posted this! we hope it can inspire more artists to participate as well :)"
i think it's great to add staff voice to this, because people like to say that staff "plays favorites" or whatever, but clearly they want to encourage more artists to participate while also maintaining a high-quality standard for the accents & skins they choose as winners.
lord knows we'd be ablaze in complaints if staff actually awarded "pity wins" to less-polished entries in the name of avoiding submissions from previous winners. in my opinion, the truly "unbiased" approach is to judge entries against each other WITHOUT considering win history. that's what staff is doing.
MV & 888 are trying to help other artists out. they get an inordinate amount of hate just for being successful. jealous janines just jerking all over the place about it. and rather than being hateful back, the artists chose instead to pass on advice. if you ask me, that's a VERY classy permutation of what could've been something more like "if you don't want me to keep winning, how about YOU submit some winners instead" LMAO.
seriously, shouts out to MV & 888.

probably one of the most thought out responses to this
i wonder if staff actually look at username when they judge? or if they cover up the left side of their screen to scroll down the entries. or if they download all the entries at once and look at them one by one without usernames/site history impacting their decision.

just to clarify, people were picking $15 USD as the equivalent to 1,500 gems because $20 USD gets you around 2,000 gems/2kg (2150 gems, to be exact).
the $100 USD pack gets you 11,500 gems. so 15kg would run you $150 USD.
given that, i'd buy a whole nuclear family a round of McChickens in return for 15kg :P

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)I'd rather people know the staff is mainly interested in stuff that matches the flight motif than people waste time on stuff that's edgey and being upset they lose.
These are a celebration of the flight as staff designed it. Not for you to make your own flight aesthetic.

yeah, things like that feel very "socially relevant" & make sense to put in a forum signature! and i understand the desire to disclose other "big" things relevant to your identity, like autism for example as i see that button around a lot. knowing you are surrounded by a community of individuals who are similar to you feels wonderful! (i am also autistic & i love how big of a presence autistic individuals have on pet sites in general) but i agree with the nuances other people are bringing up.
-you can share as you please, but you don't owe that information to anyone, and you don't have to pre-explain your behavior to strangers
-your private medical information is yours - it's not really "Safe" behavior to broadcast your whole chart to the Internet (plus, i just plain don't want to see it all attached as an addendum to every brief "this update is cool!" and "here's my dragon for your share thread" post, & that's why i blocked the 16-button signature person)
-having a certain condition doesn't excuse bad behaviors, but the growing population of Internet users who, like, "flash the badges" of their condition(s) as a get-out-of-consequences-free card has made me wary of interacting with people who put a list of mental health conditions as THE very first & most important thing they want others to know about them
...& i feel like the person who requested the "lactose intolerant" button is either 1) someone naive-ish who wants to feel included in the oversharing trend but blessedly did not choose to fabricate a condition in order to participate, or 2) some based comic who styled their request to look earnest in public but is secretly laughing behind their screen. which is the explanation i prefer to believe, because it is silly. "lactose intolerant & proud FR user" funny-false bugbear equivalent of "furry student litterbox bathroom"

Bios like these definitely signal some oblivious over-sharing, but the specific pattern of bullying I've seen from people with these kinds of bios is honestly the biggest factor in why I now avoid them. There are probably plenty of people with over-sharing stamps their bio that aren't using their condition(s) as a free pass for bad behavior, but it's happened enough that I now automatically avoid a person when I see a ton of these in their signature.
Btw did FR ever have incidents in the past with people using kinning as justification for bullying? All this is giving getting flashbacks to 2015 era Tumblr and I'm imagining someone with "impkin" in their bio starting a thread of the forums in order to call people out for having lore that didn't match their, uh, memories of being an imperial on the astral plane. (How people didn't immediately catch on that this shit was the 4chan created equivalent of "furry student litterbox bathroom", I'll never know.)

+1 I have these buttons in my profile (no signature though), just the simple ones. I included the disabled one because y'know, it DOES affect my gameplay. I'm barely active due to severe flares right now, and mentioned that in my broadcast, but nowhere do I mentioned my conditions or what symptoms I'm experiencing. I just have [gender], disabled, and FR relevant stuff up. It's a grand total of 6 buttons, only 2 are about me personally, and the other 4 are about FR.
People that include a whole ass medical chart are pretty absurd imo. Sure, awareness is important (when it comes to certain things that is, but c'mon, lactose intolerance?), but dragon Neopets seriously isn't the place for it. If you REALLY have to, go make an Instagram page for it or something so you can talk about how that killer sub from Subway destroyed your toilet.
