i stopped making accents because of shit like this lol. beyond demotivating to see my accents being resold for 2-3x what i got from making them when i'd still have runs for the SAME accent open in my shop.
I see this brought up a lot, and honestly, I'd like your opinions. Do you think previous festival items should be unretired? Should anything be retired nowadays? Personally, I do like when some items retire, because.. I don't know, but I just feel like it's so easy to get things from festivals nowadays. If I miss them, I know I can get them down the line for cheap, so there's just no real drive for me. I'm not sure where I lean on unretiring the original items, but.. I do have multiple dragons that need Boneyard Tatters, so uh
Personally, I'm of the mind if they get unretired, it needs to be something with a ridiculously low chance. Stuff like Roundsey is fine. It keeps a value. And personally,
unpopular opinion it may be, I think they need to retire some things.
It's good for the site to have people have goals to aim for.

My opinion is that I like that the site is moving away from retiring items (at least hard retiring) and still allowing *some* leeway in getting those items down the line.
It doesn't have to be 'cheap' nor easy to obtain. Just a chance, such as through roundsey every so often.
Beyond that, FR is, I feel, moving into territory where even if there is an event where everyone active could only get one item and it retired immediately after, it would still be pretty common (with the exceptions of it being a consumable item) simply because there are too many active users on site that would get the item.
So, even if festival items retired, most of them would still be pretty easy to obtain after the festivals, because currency is easier to obtain and there are simply enough active people that would make most items fairly common.

I signed up for a skin run, it came in today, and I don't even want the skin anymore. But I would feel really bad trying to resell it so soon after the run. So I guess it'll just sit in my hoard forever.
You can put up the skin on the AH for the price you paid it, the artist will sure not bite your head off since you are not reselling it for a higher price.
Even if they retire new stuff nowdays, the amount of players, and thus items, will keep price low for years. I don't want to retire something today so that I can sell it for maybe 1000g in 10 years, tbh.
I don't see why early fests stuff can't be in joxar box. The number of items in there is already so high that you can't reliably get any specific item and it keeps growing. I doubt the prices would crash significantly, Light halo is still pretty expensive.
Would just make someone's day once every blue moon.

Just turn around and put it up for the exact same price, if the artist says anything they're an ass. People change their minds and you kept your commitment by paying for it.
I was expecting a suggestion thread like this to show up as soon as the Marva scenes showed up:

Not sure if I agree with the theories that staff introduced fake scenes that they 'knew' people wanted real versions of just to mess with us though. Seems more like another exhibition of 'they don't play their own game, and thus don't realize that things like this might actually be useful'.

Yeah, I don't believe that the staff did this on purpose to mess with people. It makes sense for a April Fool's event to have scenes, and the ones we got are funny. I don't care if people want solid backgrounds, this is not targeted at them
The art culture is so weird on FR. I see a lot of inexperienced artist in flight discords and on forums asking for help with pricing and so many people give them such disingenuous comments. It isn't helping to tell someone that they should overwork themselves charging pennies for art because their foundational skills are underdeveloped.
Telling someone they can totally make bank off of their art when they're clearly putting the cart before the horse is much more cruel imo than telling someone they should work on their art more first. So many people rush to monetize their creations which really doesn't help someone who is clearly a beginner. Not to mention that these artists are unlikely to get a lot of commissions in the first place.. idk, it just seems worse to have someone bumping a thread constantly and slowly getting downtrodden than to be kindly told "at your point in progression you should focus on improvement and not sales".
This idea that all art is monetizable and SHOULD be monetizable is so terrible for new artists. It's okay to have art that's not good. It's okay to need to improve. It's okay to not be ready to make sales.

I actually don't think the lower prices of things now are due to not being retired. I think it's just that a) currency is easier to get these days which allows someone to get a lot of duplicates pretty easily, and b) we have a lot more users. It just ends up with a ton of items in circulation before the festivals/events even end. Even if they did permanently retire after that, they'd still be much cheaper than the items from the first few festival seasons (see things like the Loga or the Celebration Sage apparel - technically retired other than Roundsey, but all very affordable). Maybe super popular items like the halos would be much higher, but if they actually retired I think people would have hoarded even more of them during the fests.
That said, I like how they have it now, with most fest items available from Joxar, and would prefer they add all fest items to it. I personally think if they do add the early items to it, while the prices would drop, they'd still be pretty valuable. I just don't think the number in circulation would ever match the 'unretired' items people were able to hoard so easily.
I also think they should release recolors of the KS items/fams since they can't be unretired, and I think making imp scrolls KS-exclusive was a terrible move (and as skeezy as it would be, I would support some sort of 'not really a scroll so not technically going against the KS' breed change item even though g1 imp people would be so mad), but that's a different topic lol.

I'm surprised so many people wanted the Marva items to actually be plain color scenes. I also want plain colors scenes, but I want them to be easily accessible through the MP or something. Only being able to get a plain black/white scene through a Marva item would be the worst (and I haven't even seen then confirm they'd be added to random chests yet? I would assume so, since they usually are, but then the cloaks still aren't permanently in there...)
I mostly agree but I also think the silence of not getting any commissions over a long period of time is honestly enough for most people to figure this out for themselves. It's also just awkward to tell someone you think they're at too amateur a level to sell their art. If communicated poorly, telling someone they don't have their drawing foundations down properly can accidentally be discouraging or downright cruel. And if you aren't known for having experience with making and selling art yourself but still make these kinds of comments at artists on a public forum then you're likely to get a reputation for being judgmental and patronizing.
There's also the fact that the FR art market is oversaturated, so an amateur still working on their foundational skills will often have better luck advertising elsewhere. I saw on kid make an easy 30 dollars via twitter with ms paint emote commissions last year while meanwhile their FR shop was nothing but silence and bumps.
But yeah, watching someone tell an artist on discord to price their art at 10 cents so they can take tons of commissions and meanwhile the artist can't draw a box... :/ (well maybe it'll be a learning experience for them to learn not to listen to the advice you get when asking random people on discord or on forums lmao)

Honest truth, I play the game and I don't understand why people wanted plain black and white scenes. I'm glad we got these.
One person's meh is another person's amazing. Remember the cycled gem eye coverings? Most people I know didn't care and I only saw it on fan dragons once in a while, but in other parts of the community, apparently they are the be all end all apparel item.

At least for white backgrounds, I think a lot of people want them for accents/skins with 'transparent' bits. They used to blend it better on the plain white backgrounds, but the default background has a faded image matching your flight, so it stands out more now.
I wouldn't mind plain color backgrounds, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it should actually be a feature you can select from the customization page. Either no scene, scene, or plain background (with the colors available being the same from the color wheel to give a greater variety). Maybe charge 100k or so to unlock it per dragon for a treasure sink.

Ah. I can see that now. Accent/skin artists counted on that white background to stay the same.
But seriously, my point was mostly that everyone has different priorities and POVs on what's important. Staff may not have your priorities in mind.

Agreed. Hell, you could even weight the boxes towards newer stuff / make the earlier items rarer if you were really worried about messing things up.
Especially for early festival skins/accents, the chance would still be abysmal.

Lots of skin artists being locked this week huh?

The number of players is also so astronomically larger than it was that even having a couple extra boneyard tatters enter circulation every month wouldn't offset demand, at least not for a long, long time.

Must've been super recent, too, given the recent GASP ping on their thread.
Do we think it's transphobia or something else? Their Bridget fandragon had the bio wiped (used he him pronouns for her throughout)
I think that definitely played a role (they already had that one gross dragon bio of theirs wiped two times for being transphobic, so this could have been a third strike situation). But I think they may have also gotten in trouble for using oriental to describe one of their dragons. Their Jules and ShalntBeCalled dragons have their bios still intact, but ‘censored’ black bars over certain words (that I’m guessing staff did)? I’m going off of a comment I saw on a SMR post as I didn’t actually see it myself before it was censored, but I do know they used the word in one of their tabs a while back and had to change it.
It looks a lot like they probably got warnings to stop doing this stuff and just ignored them, and staff finally put their foot down.

Ah, I thought the "Shalnt" dragon with the censor bars was a passive-aggressive double-down after people voiced discomfort with the word in Jule's bio. (Like when Teshima's bio was wiped the second time and got the passive-aggressive scroll bio thing)
Which I suppose also could've done it. Regardless of whether they were using the word itself or being passive aggressive about a moderation decision, both could've been a last straw after a bunch of warnings.

Also, this isn’t really super relevant to the current situation and is probably a little petty, but they have a video on their YouTube of them dramatically reading a DRR post about people using light fonts on light backgrounds or something, and it being ableist. Like, they’re clearly mocking the original post and while the average DRR post is pretty mockable, this seems like a weird one to do this to since it’s a valid complaint. If it were anyone else I’d just shrug it off, but given they don’t seem to treat certain groups with respect, it comes off as awfully insensitive, considering their history.
