I'm having a pretty ok time in beta! Some stuff is super broken on Firefox specifically, but that's kinda the point of beta testing. Feature-wise, though, what we have so far is about the right blend of FR and Lioden (and then some) that I've been wanting for a while.
As someone who has played small amounts of autochess before I've been especially enjoying their "PvP" mode, but the likelihood of actually being able to verse other players is slim outside of peak times due to relatively low pop. I got into a game with three other players once at like 3am, but usually I'm just playing sparkledog autochess against a horde of site bots lmao. Similarly, their Coli equivalent is actually an autobattler, so you're not gonna get fucking CTS from grinding! HOORAY! It does, however, add an annoying RNG element, but I think not destroying your hands and wrists to play a browser game is worth the tradeoff.
The fact it has a proper story mode gives it a leg up as well imo; Lio/Wolvden have a similar explore feature, but there's not really any real continuity outside of monthly event stuff. It's something I also think FR has been very sorely missing - who gives a shit about the lore if the only way to experience it is by reading a bunch of articles? Lorwolf has only left the intros to each branch of the campaign playable in the beta to avoid major plot spoilers, but what I've played so far has been pretty neat. Only major critique I have so far is that the explore encounters are fairly limited (each area seems to have two or three unique encounters at most, outside of questing), and the layout doesn't really gel well with me and I find it difficult to focus on the quest text.
The art... It's passable? It's not immediately offensive, just lacking in lustre imo. A few of the poses are a bit wonky, but it seems to be limited to the older breeds - Bracchus look great in all poses, and I can't wait to see what their planned Wyvern breed will look like! But the Jocol female and Lupin pup poses are kinda jank. Generally, I like the companion art better than most of the wolf art, and I feel like I probably shouldn't feel the need to say that about a petsim.
In all, I think it definitely has potential! There's a lot to do, but I don't feel a great pressure to do it all like I did playing Wolvden. Your wolves don't die, and their energy bars don't seem to decay over time, so it's easier to go on hiatus and drop/repick as you like. What does decay energy is partaking in site activities with your wolves, so you'll still need to keep food on hand for that. I'm definitely very interested in how the game's gonna look and play when it gets released for realsies
Yeah, I love Firefox and I'm glad there's SOMETHING decent on the market that's not based on fucking Chromium, but we do have an issue where literally everything is being built to work on Chromium browsers first and foremost (because it's everywhere) and needs to be tweaked to work on Firefox. I guess. idk how web browser compatiblity works. :') But the most notable thing right now I'd say is the fact you can't copy your wolf images - you have to actually save them to your machine because Firefox apparently doesn't support copying to the clipboard? Which seems wrong, but, again, I have no idea how this shit works lmao
Is Lorwolf any good?
