it’s probably a pern reference, since dragon names in pern always end with -th, but uh. “murdererth” sounds bad to the ears, even divorced from its horrific context.

It's the Pernese dragon naming scheme. All end in -th.

Also, the bio used the term weyr, which is a big giveaway too.

No clue on why. This is nuts.

Is that series good?

The first few books were so shitty that I never read further, but it's considered a huge staple of dragon fiction.

I love them, and it was via a fandom writing group that I learned about FR in the first place, so mileage varies!

Yes - as anon above me noted, the author had some very problematic views, which are apparent both in interviews and some of the characterization/narratives in DRoP and her other series. But otherwise her worldbuilding has always appealed to me.

IMO, best reading order is:
Dragonflight
Dragonquest
The White Dragon
Dragonsdawn
All the Weyrs of Pern

There are lots of other books that focus on different parts of the timeline or side characters, but you're not going to be lost in the story if you jump around a bit on those after reading the main ones.
