(Like another commenter upthread, I never have made accents or ever will, so of course anyone who thinks I should accordingly not be speaking on this topic can ignore all this!) Thank you for the info. In their shoes I'd not have written it that way just for the aforementioned can o' worms reason, but if that is the wording, I can understand why the artist did what they did.
