Brightmyth speaks perfect English, I've spoken with them before. Besides the thread was a collaborative effort of many people. They just suck at wording things and the strike angle was poorly thought out. (Though thats to be expected by a bunch of high schoolers)

BTW, I'm pretty sure it's poor form to refer to someone AS ESL. They SPEAK English as a Second Language, they aren't defined by it. (Wasn't sure if you were aware)

Nah, people say "I'm ESL" a lot.

"I'm pretty sure it's poor form to refer to someone AS ESL" Hi anon, I'm ESL and have literally never met anyone who has had an issue w/ the phrasing - this borderline sounds like the 'don't say disabled people say people with disabilities uwu' argument with how stupid it is

That's cool you feel that way but I've had non native English speakers I know personally tell me so. So I'll take their words over yours, with all due respect.

na

I speak English as a second language and personally hate when people are being called an ESL (or even call themselves that). There you go.

Why would I want to be called something with wonky grammar yikes.

also ESL and have no probs referring to myself as such, person you replied to isn't even ESL so not sure why they're acting like an authority on it lmao

for what it's worth, I'm also ESL and never even knew it could be taken the wrong way or could be dehumanizing or something? it's the least clunky way to say that English is not my first language in a profile, people usually know what it means at a glance, it's cool
