I used to browse deviantart like, eight years ago or so, and just remembered it existed.
What the hell happened to it? Not just the color scheme change from greens to black, but like, it's all wonky and bad now, I don't get it, how did it get so incredibly bad???
Search is a joke, the browsing categories nuked and replaced by generic terms, I'm non-sarcastically, non-ironically confused, what did I miss in these years? Did they sell the site to someone else and they ruined it for a quick profit, or...?
Apparently it was bought out by Wix so that explains why it functions so badly and half the sites features don't even work anymore. Otherwise the site turned into a hotspot for fetish art that you can't hide with the mature filter so that scares away most people and it's a banquet for art thieves and NFT bastards.
Supposedly the original DeviantArt owners were about to bankrupt and as such the site had to be sold. The buyer happended to be Wix, which is abit of a shitty company in my blunt opinion.
Since then they reworked and removed several site features, upped their premium cost (and renamed it to core), proceeded to ignore any and all feedback from the userbase that wasn't brown nosing and launched the mess that is Eclipse.
That's not touching upon the algorithm for all the fetish art (which let's be real, has always been there) or NFT situation.
Yeah most people left and went to the other website called "buzzly" which resembles the older and less clunky version of DA.
I personally just use DA to keep track of my fave artists but many of them have stopped uploading on DA because of the NFT mess or their policies so eh :(
And yeah their website layout gets shittier and more mobile friendly with every update, but that does not help if you are forced to use that shitty mobile layout as desktop user. I really don't like DA anymore either really.
