I'd ba salty if I "invested"(in reality, gambled) hundreds of thousands of gems on scattersights remaining retired and nothing replacing them.

Gambled and lost.
Nothing holds value forever, so folks going all "surprised pikachu face" about this were naive to think the value on scattersights would just continue to climb, given how vocal the site was about eye types.
