Santae; hopefully some final nails in the coffin

Where do I even begin. CJ had a massive crash out on the official Tumblr and somehow that drew the attention of an experienced project manager willing to lend a hand. Unfortunately the fucking idiot couldn't hold it together for longer than a week before throwing another fit in the discord server resulting in numerous bans AND the new management peacing out because WTF else is a sane person supposed to do? On top of that, Ember has officially left, leaving Santae without a programmer, but that's fine because apparently CJ is getting his money's worth out of them by issuing a $15k chargeback.

The order of events is a bit jumbled since I'm reading this second hand via santae-salt but holy fuck. I'll see about archiving relevant posts soon pls forgive me there's so much.

At this point, anyone still on or involved with Santae is supporting this.

Bad enough when it was under paying artists. This is outright stealing someone's wages.

I hope that programmer gets a lawyer, holy shit.

The worst part? This is across two countries and the bastard just cleaned out Ember's account so hard that PayPal stopped the chargebacks.

No money to hire a lawyer unless one takes money only on winning the case

This crap is why I'm so leery of Paypal etc. What do you mean that your boss can just decide to steal back $15k of wages? That's absurd. I could never work for a startup. Big-boy-company payroll system or gtfo.

independent contractors (as most artists generally are) aren't usually put into a company payroll system anyway so that wouldn't help.

this would be less of an issue if Paypal would stand by sellers instead of washing their hands of it every time a buyer gets snippy.

you can protect yourself a little bit by not keeping money in your PayPal account like you would a bank because PayPal will have no qualms about zorping money out of your account with them but will have some issues getting it out of a connected bank or credit card but that's about it.

Except in this case, they let the person chargeback the account massively into the negatives, which will probably get sent into collections to get their money.

Not keeping money there would have only helped for the roughly $5k that was in there when the dude got pissy.

right but if it's sent to collections, they at least have to work with the bank or credit card attached to get it instead of PayPal just immediately handing over the money.

personally i think Ember could probably just tell CJ to go fly and ignore the collections. the onus would then be on CJ to try to get it from her somehow.

The Santae salt comm is reporting the chargeback successfully disputed.

can confirm.

related, someone made a video covering a personal experience working for CJ and a bit of the controversies surrounding Santae. only about 10 minutes long. creator has encouraged sharing it to get more eyes on it.
