They should have never made the scroll a KS exclusive - at least not indefinitely. Maybe for a few years so the backers could benefit from the exclusivity of the breed for a little while, but the actual breed is common as dirt now. I wonder how many of the actual Imperial KS backers care if they rerelease the scrolls at this point.
They could just make them an expensive $50 gem item available only once a year during the anniversary or something to balance things out. People would still bitch, but at least they’d be accessible.

I totally understand why the devs won't budge on keeping imp scrolls a kickstarter exclusive. But I ain't gonna lie, I would love it if they did this. Imps are my favorite breed, and I'm a grown ass adult with a decent job and no other vices to blow my cash on. I could possibly scrape together enough to buy one if I lived on ramen for awhile... but I just can't justify spending that much on a bunch of pixels. Not in this economy.

Please, you're speaking about the Spoiled Adult Site - if they release a $50 imp scroll, you'll see even bigger screams about pay-to-win, about staff's hatred of the poorTM, about the evilest evil staff that is only looking to profit from dying children in Africa or whatever: I'll bet those $50 that everyone who's now loudly crying about the supposedly inaccessible imps will just start crying about the prices and will not buy even one scroll themselves.
there was a thread in suggestions awhile back offering the idea that imp scrolls and other ks items could be added to Avery as extremely high achievement point cost items.
that would avoid the "pay-to-win" issue of just tossing it into the gem mp as well as reward longtime players who have likely supported the site with ad-refreshes and goodwill if not outright gem purchases.

Honestly? Not that Gaiaonline is a great role-model that other sites should model themselves after but. I think they should re-release the scrolls into the gem store for the equivalent of $1000 (or just straight up 1k american smackaroonies). It gets re-released. It's a biiiig challenge to get. Site gets a couple big ones to keep running just that much longer for all the folks that this'd piss off and stop buying gems (though debatable they were buying gems anyway). We get chaos. Wins all around. lol
I'm half joking, I do like the idea of re-releasing it for irl cash monies as I'm also an adult, 50 seems.... fair. Is a g1 imp worth slightly less than that AAA videogame to you? I'm sure for someone it is. Will people bitch? Yes, but people bitched about a $10 breed release. Those people are going to bitch regardless if it's 10 or 50 or 1000. (funnily enough I don't think I've seen these people complain about a gene that costs more though they'll buy that.)
(Yes this is something gaiaonline did do and yes at least a couple of people did actually buy the damn thing- the item being the very first "Monthly Collectible" back when they were referred to as "Donation Items" because in the very beginning the site needed donations to get up an running [pre-kickstarter era] and this was a surprise gift to those initial users who did donate and they just became a thing, each month a new item only available during that time. The item itself? A plain ass halo for your little character dude. Like a sonic ass ring floating above the head. A thousand dollars. Yeah.)

Oh I don’t doubt they would, but virtually every option is going to get some loud group throwing a fit, because this is FR. The Avery option is nice and I’d be in support of that too, but newer players (including locked accounts that have been remade) without many points yet would throw their own fits over that and even established players would probably get grumpy about only being able to get one or two (if put in there for a high amount). At least the Anniversary Gem option makes the site a bit of money (and they can set the price to whatever. I just chose 50 because the original KS level was 30 or so, so this seems a fair compromise - you get a chance to get the scroll but you’re going to pay more than the KS backers did.) I would argue people would eventually adjust - if it’s in there for a week during the anniversary every year, that’s more than enough time to save up the gems without buying any directly, but of course it requires people to actually… play the game lol so I’m being optimistic there.
Realistically, I don’t think staff wants to deal with whatever sort of drama comes around from doing anything about the Imp scrolls, so I’m doubtful we’ll ever see it released again in any form. Maybe if they know the sites going to shut down someday they’ll just toss them in the treasure MP for laughs.

ngl i love this. on the balance of things i like the avery update but a really big stretch goal would do a lot to motivate me to grind out more achieves
same here. plus more players grinding achieves would likely mean more players clicking through the site and generating more ad revenue so it'd be a win for the site too.
Bear in mind that the KS was 15 years ago and reflects a subtly different mentality of site and business design.
You can see it in the lore too. Releases used to be darker and the lore was more complex. The Deity accounts all talked more.
My guess? The site got a lot bigger than anyone was expecting and the admins realised that the trend of bigger = blander is because moderation is HARD. And with that comes less retiring of items, because instead of a smaller group of hardcore players they’ve got a tiny group of VERY hardcore players and a much larger group of moderate players.

This Seems Like Maybe a Bad Deal

the petsites they were competing w were also much different, there's a lot of neopets and subeta dna going on where almost unattainably expensive items is the norm

With all the talk of imp scrolls and what they would cost, I want to ask how often people pay for in game currencies/microtransactions in games they play?
Personally, I try to avoid paying money as much as possible. But if I get a lot of enjoyment out of a game, I don't mind spending a bit ($20-$60) one time as a treat and also to compensate the devs. But also for some reason, as soon as I spend money on a game I tend to fall off of it for awhile, like for a few months or even a year at a time.

I have paid for in game stuff in the past, when I was younger. But these days I just don't think it's worth it for me.
Maybe I should pay for gems once tho, now that my 11 year anniversary on the site is coming up.

Much the same here. I'm usually generally free-to-play but if I get really invested I might throw $5-10, 20 if I'm particularly spicy, at it every now and then. More if it's really something I'm into and that affects gameplay with my gaming group.
Like. Helldivers for example I've bought a few of the expansion packs to play with my friends, I think they're like the equivalent of $15-25 dollars each? (I forget it's been a while, I've been playing other games at the moment, I just know I have to buy bundles of the cash currency to get the game packs). I am more likely to spend money on stuff that affects gameplay than I am to spend it on purely cosmetic stuff, if that makes sense? Nexon kind of spoiled cosmetics for me way back in the day; used to be addicted to maplestory in highschool.
Um more specifically to FR? I think I've bought $15-20 worth of gems at least once a year. As a treat.

I can see why they would keep the scrolls permanently retired. Especially now that people spend a real life fortune to get one. It would be kind of a slap in the face of what people go through to get those nowadays.
I think a fair compromise would be to release imperial eggs instead of scrolls. That way the exclusivity of getting to turn just any dragon into an imp is still available for the KS backers and the people who made sacrifices to get those, but other people have a way to access the breed in a gen 1 form.

I make it a point to never do in-game microtransactions, especially if it's more "gambling" style (luck-based, lootboxes etc.) I'm really prone to just tossing money to see what happens if I'm not careful. And so I do not allow myself to! I don't think I've purchased anything of that sort since Overwatch was in its heyday in 2016ish, lol. But it sucks because a lot of games do this style now, it's predatory but it works. If it's a one-time purchase such as a cosmetic for something that I play a lot (and if it's an indie game and it goes to supporting the devs) I could be more tempted, but for the most part I have a no microtransactions rule.
That being said, in the many years I've played FR I have thrown $20 at them during Black Friday sales maybe twice or three times. I figure I've gotten years of enjoyment out of this site, so it's the least I can do to show them some support. I haven't done this recently though as I now make the bulk of my gems during NotN.

I buy gems once every couple of months. I use an ad blocker, so I like to support the game in other ways. FR is the only game I do this for, though -- I play a couple of phone games, and I've never given them a cent.
I buy gems (usually $20 - $40) a couple of times a year - typically around my birthday and Christmas. Maybe a little extra here and there. I don’t mind spending money on a game I like, especially if it’s otherwise free - it’s a little treat for me and I get to support the site. There’s way worse places I could be giving my money to.
I actually really love Pokemon Sleep and I pay for the monthly premium sub because I play it literally every day and therefore I get a lot of mileage from the perks. It's absolutely not crucial for an enjoyable experience, but the $10 a month goes a long way for me, personally. I've outright bought currency only once or twice, and that was because it was a package deal at a discount that was $5 at most.
I mostly F2P Flight Rising but I've occasionally tossed a few bucks during the gem sales because I like to support the devs while funding one of my dragon projects. I think the most I've spent at one time was $10, maybe $20 during the sales.

I have no self control and spend maybe 50-70 a month but also I do it on a really cute and pretty dress up game where I can make my avatar look like my OCs.
Other times it's on a dumb gacha with really attractive husbands but that's about 30 dollars every few months. Lol help me, I'm attracted to shiny basically like a dumb bird.
