ok. trying to put a more productive spin on the replies here: Seemingly a lot of people feel like skin contests should be run like scholarships (i.e. taking into account not just talent but also a sense of being "disadvantaged"). While a program like that would be very cool, it's not what a contest is. I don't think it's appropriate, fair, or considerate to hold "the contest is run as a contest, not a scholarship" against the artists who win, much less suggest there's some kind of pepe silva-ass conspiracy between them and the staff.
888 and MV clearly enjoy making contest entries, and that's wonderful! Both of them would make far more profit just printing their entries through their shops. It is completely boggling to me that people aren't happy that they continue to want to share their work this way, meaning it's possible to get your hands on their UMA art for 35kt instead of a cool 850g.
