thanks for the best anon FR discussions

y'all are awesome. i see way more based takes here than on any other Flight Rising discussion site removed from the main website. i have love for tumblr, don't get me wrong, but i think the venue of SMR and DRR being tumblr means that a different type of player tends to chime in for the discussions there, and unfortunately a lot of those commenters are, ahem, players i have blocked on the main site because i find them insufferable. but making a tumblr to identify & block them all there too would probably take more time than making a thread on a salt blog, so here i am ;)

this is an appreciation post for this venue and for the people who have chosen to spend their time running it - thank you thank you - but i've put it in "wanker" category because iiiit's also a dig at the tumblr salt blogs (if there are other, non-tumblr places i'm missing, do please fill me in).

DRR is boring (sorry) and perhaps a bit slow-paced & disjointed, and SMR is very repetitive & cliquey. "is it okay to exalt or not exalt my dragons? is it okay to breed my G1s? if someone else is breeding dragons that look like this will i be drawn & quartered for breeding hatchlings that look similar? are difficult achievements ableist for being difficult (NOT picking on the shock switch issues/other actual accessibility-related issues, just picking on "mad i have to play FR to earn FR points")? is it ableist that i don't get all new items for free, or that items retire & become expensive? is staff capitalist scum because they need money to support their small team of dedicated staff in making a free-to-play passion project that's setting the current standard for virtual pet sites? is staff hate me in particular because they haven't already released X item or feature that i really want? am i the special-est multiaccounter because i've come up with the most convoluted justification as to why i in particular Deserve to Cheat? should i take a break if playing FR is consuming my life & stressing me out? why i can't trauma dump on the forums, is this because staff hates X kind of person & is oppressing me?"

there have been discussions here before about how posts submitted to SMR relating to certain users seemed not to go through because of potential mod connection to those users, but i don't have any deets to add in that regard. i just pop in to check the feed every once in a while, and have to remind myself to only look at a few posts at a time, and stay away from the notes/comment section because some of them make my eyes roll so hard they're gonna get stuck in the back of my head.

In b4 mod gets called out on SMR for using a gif from a "problematic show that glorifies cannibalism" lol

Definitely why I prefer here to SMR, there's more room for nuanced takes. SMR treats everything black and white, this comm is usually more interested in the gray area.

SMR being on tumblr means in order to contribute beyond submitting, you need to either say things with your tumblr blog or make a separate one just to whine about dragon drama. I'm not invested enough to do either.

It's also so much easier to have a conversation here. Linking tumblr anons back and forth is such a pain, plus with queue it always ends up being a circular argument for ages because of the delay.

+1 on SMR lmao, that is a very accurate depiction of that blog.

Some of the submissions there are by people who are probably young and asking about FR social etiquette because unfortunately assholes that try to police how other people play the game/do with their dragons exist in greater numbers than they should be. But yeah, a lot of the others are... well, yikes. They have me squinting my eyes and asking 'is this bait?' because if not, these people probably need to touch grass or something.

I agree on the comments section too. It's a gigantic cesspool of the same people who tends to dogpile over the tiniest shit. Like it didn't matter to those people that OP has a point, they will tunnel-vision on something that OP did not put in words as nicely as possible and strawman something up to attack OP because they feel personally attacked. The multiaccounting shit is notorious for this and I'm convinced that some of these people defending it multiaccount themselves lmao.

So SO glad there's a non-tumblr drama site for my sodium chloride needs. I hate the tumblr format and having to maintain a tumblr account when I stopped using that site almost 10 years ago as I've noticed the same behavior by certain SMR users being prevalent on tumblr even way back then.

I mostly lurk SMR/DRR/ARR as a fun way to gather info, like a grapevine of sorts. Sometimes I'll submit a really general/relatable meme despite not having a tumblr account. But I've noticed ARR is super chill and informative compared to the tumblr blogs and that's a good thing! Kudos to the mods and respectful anons here.
