LOVE this theme in general! it feels laser targeted to my personal favorite things, haha. plus i’m having a great time seeing how many i can guess right in advance.
potentially outing myself with this list, but these were/are my guesses for flowers + exact names after TCC confirmed it was "birth" flowers being used:
- poppy of flameforger (correct)
- aster of starfall
- marigold of rot
- rockbreaker's chrysanthemum
- crystalline snowdrop
- violet of trickmurk
- mistral daffodil
- daisy of wavecrest
- lily of greenskeeper
- bonus round: "nocturne's narcissus" as joxar familiar

TBH I think they avoided 888's entry because of the current big game Baldur's Gate 3. Which features a fire character with an infernal engine in her chest. Considering their past issues with copyrighted material winning festivals it probably would've faced immediate backlash. (Even if the artist didn't intend it to be.)

if that's true, that's a sad way for a fest entry to go. i wonder if had 888 meant for the name to be a BG3 reference? MV and 888 laid out a lot of the 'hidden rules' to skin contests. it would be incredibly ironic and sad they got nerfed for another rule they didn't consider.

i'd be a bit surprised and disappointed if that turned out to be the reasoning, especially given "inazuma" from TCC could have likewise been construed as a genshin impact reference
(i think it just means "lightning," but it's not like the concept of hellfire machinery is unique to bg3—Ghost Rider, anyone?—so it feels roughly comparable to me)

If you're reading this, artists: You got picked for a reason, and it means staff thinks that your work represents the flight!

Foddart in Fire only serves to get us levels, all currency and even exalting profits are the artist's alone!

I'm less likely to disbelieve it because it's rare - rare things happen. I'm more likely to disbelieve it because it's a pattern of behaviour for her and was easily predictable.
Firedom didn't tell people on the forums what was going on.

Yea, I just saw demonfire and yes, the whole head of that accent was unfinished and flatcolored. Staff should have caught that and disqualified it. The tundra accent is more ambiguous.
Thanks. But it's still killed any excitement I had over winning, especially since I've seen more comments picking at the entry than otherwise. Oh well.
nyart This, it's the pattern of behaviour. When you do it often enough that people on AR can make accurate predictions on what you're going to say when you resurface, that says something.
Quite honestly I wonder if some of them would/will come back if Duchess is forced to step down and AA do pull off their restructure
I miss the events that skye would run in the discord. I loved seeing the challenges where she would bet with some people to be the first to have 7 familiars from a venue or something. I was too shy to openly play along but I would race with them. I miss watching bool's excitement too. The race to getting the bug was the best. If they both came back fire would be so much better for it.
Bool is obnoxious as hell and never talks about anything but her wealth, you're more than welcome to take her back.

This might de-anon me somewhat but,
I understand that feeling, one of my festival wins got torn into in a previous year and it made me take a long hiatus from submitting at all.
I promise the number of people who like and will use your accent on their dragons far outweighs the drama-site folks who are picking at it. It says more about their behavior than your art.

i don't mean this unkindly
but
this IS a comm where people go to bitch about things, and generally discuss what they either wouldn't consider appropriate to say in "public," wouldn't say off anon, or both.
if two or three anons not liking your !!winning entry!! can get to you badly enough to kill literally all your excitement over that win, anoncomms may simply be too negative a place for you, and i'd earnestly suggest you do yourself a favor and not visit them.

genuinely. i understand the benefit of constructive criticism, and i don't mind people pointing out aspects of the winning entries that could be improved. but there's a big difference between "hey i wish the artist had shaded the horns" (concrit, this is a very fair and specific critique, it's not personal at all) and "here's a list of people i think deserved to win over the people who did" (i don't care about the intent, this looks petty and like you're putting some people down to lift other people up).
I'm one of the people who has long advocated for this and even with the issues people have with a couple of entries, I'm still into it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Nobody has to agree with me, of course, but my personal philosophy is I can accept a few rough around the edges submissions to get some new blood among winners and to boost smaller artists' confidence.
That said, I agree you can't have it both ways. People in my camp will need to accept "lower quality submissions," as you said, winning. I do think it's silly people have complained for as long as I've been on FR salt communities about MV winning everything, and now that we have other winners whose work they like less, they're complaining about MV losing (note: I don't know when MV's last win was, this is my first fest back since returning from hiatus).

MV didn't lose this fest tho, they were in the winner's circle. 888 did.

ypue point aside, it's kind of dumb to say people were complaining about MV winning too often and now they're complaining that they lost. you know that anon comms and smr aren't a monolith of opinion right? there's going to be different people who think different things. has it occurred to you that the people hoping MV would lose for once, aren't the same people mourning when they lose?

like anon above me, i do think these sets of complaints are coming from different groups of people
so more of a "you can't please everyone" thing than hypocrisy or [shocked pikachu reaction] kinda deal.

Seriously. That was the point I was trying to make, and instead, they just attacked my word choice. Criticize the flaws. That's fair. The list of people more deserving of the win immediately after is the issue.
I just wish they'd be less mean about it.
Nothing like seeing 888's(who has been trying to encourage new artists) entry being used to belittle and chase away new artists.
