Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-07 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)Oh for sure, I know I'm not jazzed about a contest that has nothing but lemon squares. But the staff are the only ones that get a vote in who wins, and since they don't really play their own game they probably don't care at all about how many people would like more unusual entries to put on their dragons. They may not even feel like there's a problem here. Hopefully they notice at some point, but I'm resigned to at least a few more years of them coming by every month and going "ooh, lemon squares!" before that happens.
Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-07 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)nayrt I do wonder if staff is concerned with the dwindling entries despite having so many new breeds though. Sometimes they seem to really have the pulse on what users want (like the success of flaunt and flair leading them to release more genes with complex accent colors, like cinder and blaze, harlequin and jester) and sometimes they make decisions I'm baffled by. I would really love to be a fly on the wall of their meetings.
Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)The problem is (like with so many other games) that the devs do not play actively their own game and thus do not know what the users want or understand their struggles at all.
Like the 1 mil shock switch achievement. Like BRUH, did you even play that broken ass jank ass game from hell? I know they nerved it now and actually fixed that game after 10 years but yeah they do not play their own fucking game.

"but there are some who just want to feel special."
That describes most of the situations online unfortunately, because it is too easy to lie. It's rare for people to assign self-diagnoses accurately in general, and many of the 'self-diagnosed' people I see on the internet pander to the worst of stereotypes and assumptions about the supposed illnesses they have. DID is apparently all the rave to fake, for instance, and so are wild and offensive inaccuracies about it.

It wasn't a RMT deal, that particular dude was probably afraid of something and panic sold. Ysdaar was just lucky to have the gems in time to respond.
Given their habitat and the (to me) leafy/thorny look of their scales, I actually could easily see them for nature.
Popular is an understatement. Just go to tiktok and see what I'm saying.
Those used to be a lot more effective before the profile revamp, when the dragons were on top of a plain white background. Now even a sceneless dragon has enough background texture where you can see the contrast very plainly.
"and that I might be blunt in my communications"
I admit this kind of thing is actually exactly what gets my own hackles up a bit: the notion that neurodivergence is a justification for rudeness. (and I say this as someone who is neurodivergent, including being on the spectrum.)
your posts here don't strike me as notably blunt/rude, so most likely this is simply anxiety on your part rather than you wanting an excuse to be a dick!
it's just that I've had a few too many bad experiences.

AYRT
No, I get it- I've seen folks be COMPLETELY rude for no reason, and then say "YOU'RE ABLEIST, I'M AUTISTIC" -coughs at Prince Eridan-
When I say blunt, I mean I might come off as such because of how I type. I'm really bad at conveying tone through text, and even worse at deciphering tone through text.
(I've tried balancing this out by using tone indicators or emoticons/emoji to show I'm not mad/displeased etc, and have been accused of being a tumblr snowflake, or being passive aggressive because of the emoji. I gave up and just explain I'm autistic, because you can't win for losing with some folks when trying to communicate with them.)

Honestly with the amount of shit-flinging I've seen at people who are even a wee bit blunt (especially on SMR), you're extremely valid for just stating that you're autistic tbh. Some folks are just tiring to deal with.

Putting random chunks of scenery onto a dragon. It's been a trend for several years now and I can't stand it. I was pinged for an accent the other day that would've been an insta-buy for me if not for this and it made me upset.
I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been brought up in this thread yet, but maybe I'm just weird. No shame to those who do like this trend though.

Were you being judged on tastiness? Or were you being judged on lemon squares? This isn't a "Best piece of art" contest, it's a "skins that represent the flight" contest.
FFS.

why are people acting like this lol
it's a site contest. to create a site item. your esoteric "this is a lemon square reimagined. it tastes like a lemon square but it looks like a sponge cake" entry is of course not going to win
and then all the people saying the admins dont play their game when they actually do? and have stated a lot that they do. they have accounts not connected to their admin accounts that they play on. i would say theyre casual players

OP of the thread... this was the kind of person i was complaining about, and the reason why the buttons even began to annoy me in the first place.
plenty of people use the buttons for reasonable purposes. time zone, pronouns, et cetera. disclosing conditions in general isn't a full-on, blanket-statement Bad Thing, and as other people are discussing here, it 100% has its social place and can often be a GREAT thing, leading to conversations & friendships that may not have blossomed otherwise.
Flight Rising has an awesome community in a lot of ways, and it's nice to know things about fellow players at a glance - but after a while, for me, it went Too Far. i place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the "Cosplaying Disorders is Cool" crowd. seeing the buttons now is like seeing a red hat in public - "is this going to say what i think it's going to say?"
i feel awful for people whose conditions are popular targets for malingering. i wanted to start this thread with a tone that was exaggerated for humor, because i'm not trying to take a swing at people who actually have, for example, a dissociative disorder. but admittedly it is the DID fakers who have me reaching for my block button most often. i do a lot of giveaways on the forums, and i just plain Don't Want To gift stuff to people who choose to present themselves as FR user The(___)System (multiple real users like this) (one of them with that username style literally has a clan info section that says "we're a DID system but we wont really talk about that here" like??? if that was true then why name your entire account like that, shaking my damn head)

Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy
(Anonymous) 2023-08-08 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah, I watch a lot of baking championships, and if someone rolled up to a championship that was all about lemons, and decided they wanted to use grapefruit instead, they wouldn't win. Even if they wanted to use a similiar taste profile to lemon, it still wouldn't win if it weren't lemon.
There is some leeway in the contest rules, so I can understand the frustration to a certain extent, but again, as the other person said, it is a site contest to create entries that will become official site items. The admins want winners that adhere to the vision they have for the site.
Which is why such a guide that MV wrote is great. Because it is pointing this out, that if you want to win, adhere to what the admins pick. If the admins have never picked an orange square before, then don't enter the contest, no matter what the theme is, with orange squares. You will likely not win. If the admins always pick lemon squares, again no matter the theme, then you should start looking to do lemon squares if you want to win.
For the baking championships, the way to win boils down to:
1. Follow the theme.
2. Use the twist.
3. Don't be sloppy with decoration.
Contestants who follow those three rules tend to win more often (or at least not go home) than those that don't.

madlad is actually giving away 500g a person for entering skin contests now. honestly, this is pretty of cool of them. i've never entered a fest before but they posted a lot of resources and it makes me want to start.

I block any and all self-proclaimed systems on sight. It does wonders for my mental health, because seeing them ignites a burning anger within me. Hell just earlier, I wrote a whole essay to myself just to vent my thoughts and feelings after seeing one such The(___)System user. I have very, very strong feelings on the matter, to the point where it's not really healthy. Hence, the loosey-goosey blocking.
If someone asks me to, I'll post what I wrote, but otherwise I'm not gonna dump it on anyone unprompted.
