oh Firebreather fucks and I genuinely hate Carnivore in a very "this only looks good in specific colors and it otherwise borderline squicks me" way. Wish we could've just gotten Firebreather for the ancients too :S
I agree, that carnivore gene sucks ass they should keep it the same color as the color it is for instead of pairing it with....unmatchy AF colors. I got excited thinking this would look great on triple imps I'm breeding right now but alas, kinda ruins them.
I like the concept of firebreather but it sure does look like lorwolf's stripes in execution. It does not feel polished to me and looks very awkward on a lot of colors.
after looking at it in different combos, I can definitely see that now. It makes me think of a half-body Crackle in which some colors just don't look super flattering with it and some combos I thought it'd look good in just fall a bit flat.
It looks like a new version of Spooge I mean uh Smirch only with even less attention paid to dimensionality. Wrap the effect around feathers and horns? Why bother when you can just lay a windshield splotch across the line art and call it a day?
Another thing that irks me about firebreather is that it looks the same when you go through a whole color range, with very little variation. Look at the orange and yellow ranges and you will see what I mean.
I absolutely LOVE Carnivore because it's saved a few "You're gonna have Basic tert forever" projects, but I agree, I kinda wish it was teeth only and not have the drool/smoke, and I REALLY wish Carnivore had a Modern version, too.
(I actually got excited when I saw the icon for the gene, because I thought it was going to add MULTIPLE mouths, then was disappointed it was just teeth, but I'll take what crumbs my maw-loving self can get.)
