As someone who has no interest in ancients personally I'm getting super annoyed at how they're clogging up the site. There's going to be 3 this year? I'm tired. idk why they thought doing parallel genes like that was a good idea if they knew the end result would be 11 new breeds. and what if there's more than 11 ancients?
I feel like they’re aiming for 3 this year so they can finally have the '2 dragons per flight' thing out of the way. That would leave Earth, Wind, and Light for the next couple years (I believe they said they wouldn’t start working on flightless ancients until every flight has at least one, with singular breed flights being the priority.)
There’s definitely going to be more than 11, though. The whole point of ancients was to release more breeds. I got the impression from the beginning they had hoped to release at least a breed a year, before the reality of designing moderns around increasing numbers of genes and apparel became evident. I think after all the flights get one we might see some slowdown, but I bet after that we’ll still see at least one ancient a year.
Of course, the biggest issue with them is trying to organize the genes. The marketplace at least has filtering. They’re adding that upcoming shop to deal with non-MP genes. The most complaints I see right now (and personally have) is the AH - where a simple solution would also be to add the filtering (although an 'Exact Search' option would also be great, even outside of this situation). I really don’t get why that hasn’t been added yet. That alone would resolve one of the most frustrating aspects.
Alternatively, they could also just combine all the Ancient Breed-specific scrolls for a gene into a singular gene scroll (i.e.; Ancient Tertiary Gene: Sparkle). Then, in the description, list what breeds can use the gene. For some like Sparkle we'd go from 7 gene scrolls to 2 (the modern and the ancient), which would clean things up nicely. That does come with the risk of people not reading and buying a scroll they can't use - but to be fair, they could just sell it if so. I'm sure newbies unfamiliar with the system already buy Modern genes and apparel for their ancients without realizing they can't use it.
+100 I get one or two if the terts are particularly awesome but in general I'm feeling the same, there's too little actual customization (in apparel, I mean) for me to be more interested
Yeah. There are a couple of ancients whose designs I love (Gaolers and these new guys) but to dress them up you have to spend a fortune on accents. And a lot of accents aren't, well, dressy.
I'm getting a little "eh" about it myself, yeah. Hopefully they'll deal with the damn gene bloat before they work on the ones next year. I don't like going into the MP for genes now since the bloat makes it so it's less likely for me to see the -modern- genes I need.
Not to mention we're not even getting much space to acommodate all of them. We only got six spaces in the last six or so months, and they're planning two more this year? Ugh.
