Pfft, you with your logical well-reasoned responses!
When it comes down to it, most entertainment is ephemeral. The enjoyment of a meal, or a party, lasts only as long as you're eating/partying. Even most clothes last only a few years before wearing out. A pretty pixel dragon which may, if we're lucky, last another ten years before the world is taken over by AI chatbots, is a pretty decent use of one's entertainment money by that standard.

I mean, wouldn't it be just as 'privileged' if Student Anon dumped that amount of money into partying every month? Honestly, this whole thing comes off as people sneering at Student Anon for being a introvert/gamer/nerd instead of a Manly Hard-Drinking Jock or whatever to cover up jealousy that they can afford to buy that many gems.

It IS privileged, yes, but you can say that about anything... One person's exorbitant purchase will be reasonable for someone else bc the value of something is so subjective depending on your financial situation.

...what... I hang out with my friend sober and present 99.99% of the time
0.01% is spent with a nice buzz, enjoying a fruity (and very tasty) cocktail, in a high energy bar surrounded by jovial, like minded people and there's nothing wrong with that lmao
It might be a waste of time and not money well spent to you and that's okay! but it's my life and that's how Imma enjoy it, and damn, life be good. Imma go ahead and say that spending about $20 on a coatl breed change scroll is 'money not well spent' since it's just a bunch of pixels to me. But honestly? if it makes the buyer happy, who cares?
Damn you're bitter

i'm also here with you on the anon comm for the dragon game????
why the fuck would "manly hard-drinking jock" be a standard i'm invested in, or anyone else here. that's a complete strawman and you know it, anon.
obviously i can't speak for Literally Everyone but no i promise this is not coming from "jealousy"; i could afford to whale at this game on the same level as the student anon if i put all my "fun money" into it. i just personally think it's very unwise budgeting, and am kind of boggled that this is such a blisteringly hot take apparently.

Anon there's nothing mind boggling about people having different preferences when it comes to "fun money".

Yeah, I have just seen this for nearly 20 years now, and it always seems to be against games and petsites.
No one bats an eye at someone buying skeins of yarn and never knitting a thing (or knitting one sweater a year while buying 20 skeins a month). They don't bat an eye at people spending money on going to a movie theater, or eating at a super fancy 30 bucks for a cheese stick restaurants.
But when the topic of spending money on an online site or buying games in general, people always have something better they would do with that money.
I wish that they could really answer why gaming is not as 'valid' as knitting, or hiking, or going to see a 3 hour movie, or spending an hour eating at a fancy restaurant, or anything else they feel would be a better use of that money.
I definitely agree that entertainment is ephemeral, and that is why I try not to judge what people want to do for it.
I definitely have fond memories of the games I have played. I remember listening to Johnny Cash while playing Ultima Underworld: the Stygian Abyss, and those darn spiders leaping out from around corners, the lurkers in the water and how novel the whole idea of being in first person was to me.
I remember the first time I started Morrowind, and how I felt wandering through the landscape and the thrill of finding a new cave and new things to explore. I can still almost hear that music from around Ald-ruhn when a dust storm would start.
I remember starting Gothic and cursing the controls (because they were weird :P) but sticking with it, and eagerly awaiting the next thing I needed to do.
Those are only three games out of frankly more games than I want to admit I have played, but I can still remember those feelings and for morrowind and UU, it has been 20+ years since I last played them. (I also played the heck out of morrowind, especially once I got into modding, so I definitely got my money's worth out of those games) So, isn't that what most people get out of going to a movie or a play? The enjoyment of having seen it (Game version: the enjoyment of playing it), fond memories of having seen it (game version: ditto) and some time spent having fun?

What is truly mind boggling are the people who can't seem to understand that 'fun' means something different to different people.

for real tho how is spending disposable income on leisure "unwise budgeting"
assuming anon isn't like, going without food or other essentials it really doesn't matter what they spend their disposable income on

ITT people don't know what discretionary income is
This whole thread is so weird. Why is there a Dudebro vs Straightedge argument happening in my silly lizard game drama community. Why does any one care this much about other’s spending habits or how they entertain themselves.
Isn’t the fact that we’re here discussing dragon breeding simulator gossip proof that we’re ALL dweebs, my friends?

seriously. I posted this asking for some feedback about gems, and it turned into a war.

I know this is oldish drama, but a random dragon in the frontpage was named Zuuko and lo and behold, it was one of the various multis of this user.
I have nothing more to say than lol.

Some drama while waiting for fest to start lol. Way to be a Karen over this, blowing up at someone over what is really a tiny issue.

Jesus Christ they really went from 0-60 on that one. The way they pinged them alone was over the top. Good god

The sea shells are cute! :)
Thought that was brightmyth for second because of the profile picture. What an unhinged response.

the apparel is lovely! it's simple but really functional. the water aura is awesome too and i can see a LOT of users using it to make their dragons "underwater".
