imo, as long as you're just grabbing them off the AH, it's fine (which it sounds like this is what you're doing). If you're messaging people and buying via PMs then flipping, yeah, that's more of a dick move.
and honestly, 100-300g isn't really a bad markup either. like at absolute cap that's still only like 1.5x egg price, so who really cares? You take on the risk, you get the profit if it works. I see no reason, as long as it's AH, for it to really matter.

Is it wrong to snipe underpriced items without caring about the name to add to your stockpile? Not talking sprites or irreplaceables. I think I caught 2 forgot a digit copies of the new NOTN genes today.
The auction house is an opt-in PVP enabled zone imo, plus as a sniper myself I can tell you if you're taking the time to memorize or click on the name of the seller who fucked up, someone else will often snipe first. And they'll likely have less qualms about their purchase than you. If you care that much check the forums for a sympathy post by the seller, there are some threads specifically about misprices as well. For something worth as little as the NOTN genes though, I really wouldn't bother.

Dragons are a bit of a different story for flipping than everything else, because people can track where they go, and get more personal with their feelings about it. It all comes down to how much you care about that. Some people will always be talking shit behind your back if you're a serial flipper, even if it's AH sniping. If you're emotionally stable with a life outside of the dragon capitalism game, that's not much of a problem. If people not liking you for playing the game within the rules bothers you too much, flip strats are not for you. No shame either way. Play however it makes you happy.

it's on AH, so it's free real estate - if you went to someone's PMs and asked to sell you dragons for cheap, then it would be a scummy asshole move to resell. block the idiots, they are from the same variety that cries about "their" dragons being exalted after selling them on AH for fodder prices.

Mind, I don't know that I'll be making much money from my sniped hoard. I figure a stash of the good NOTN genes in regular and ancient will at best possibly be worth a bit more than I paid later in the year, or at worst, my projects will become you get a paisley and fern, and you get a paisley and fern, and you get a paisley and fern.

If you do want to snipe quick and then check the seller's username at your leisure, buy, then backpage, then forward-page - at least in my browser doing it that way loads a cache with the listing you just bought. I always end up returning at least a couple eggs that way every NotN, either missed digits or accidentally listen for treasure. But yeah, the genes aren't really worth the trouble. (Although I am curious how much they'll inflate over the year. More than poor Smirch ever did probably.)

I think the only recourse is reporting to staff. If the user ghosted that many folks and the gems are still there, maybe they can return the money.

Dang, I was considering ordering those accents awhile back. Glad I didn't pull the trigger, gems are hard to come by for me anyhow. Hope those people can get some recourse for this

Honestly, I thought the same thing. Or it's possible that real life got super overwhelming, they realized how many people they were stiffing, and got way too anxious to ever log back onto the site because it weighed on them so heavily having to sort this out. I hope they're okay
