Been seeing a lot of side jabs being directed at the current dom team of arcane and i'm curious on what it comes from? i know about the drama from 2015/16 but i dont see any of those people being active or in charge anymore (at least publically)? i was planning on moving to arcane from lightning after my 6months is up, but the little comments here and there are making me hesitate. the house cup dislike i guess i understand, but i dont really care about that since theyve explained it in public dom watch. which of them are shady and why?

to many people the concept of a house cup competition is directly linked with harry potter, which is disliked for pretty obvious reasons these days

meh that seems dumb considering houses are a normal UK boarding school thing and not just from Harry Potter. my friend's high school back in India also had houses which competed against each other during sports day so I imagine it's common in former British commonwealth countries generally too.

Americans, not everything in Harry Potter was made up by JKR 😂

i completely agree with you that its something thats existed well before harry potter, but it is what introduced the concept of house cups to a lot of non-brit influenced areas.

also arcane's entire house cup concept takes direct inspiration from harry potter's sorting method and the 4 houses basically boil down to studiousness, friendliness, bravery, and "evil" competitiveness. the parallels to HP are pretty damn obvious.

ohhh hmmm ok that seems kinda boring, wouldn't it be more interesting to come up with your own magical school that doesn't have the smart/brave/evil/miscellaneous categorization lmao. wind's inter-flight competition is more imaginative that way. i think a magical school could still be fine but i feel like doing a harry potter theme every single year would get old.

It keeps me from joining arcane even though its perfect for me lore, with how boring and uncreative the houses are lol

i mean you don't have to participate if you hate it that much. they do have more in depth descriptions to keep them from being a direct 1:1 of the hp houses. but i totally get it, it's in that rough spot where it's an in flight tradition at this point, and if they didn't do it i could forsee a ton of people being mad about it and making anon salt posts about "hdt not do the house cup" or w/e. but it's also not as beloved as it used to be, in and out of flight. so they're kinda effed if they run it and effed it they don't.

I know I don't have to participate, but I'm trying to be more active in dominance and the house cup seems important to arcane?

I also like Wind's houses, being themed after the four winds and all. Maybe, since the house system itself is fine but the inspiration for the ones they have is less fine, Arcane could do with a fresh set of houses. Something more space themed, perhaps? Name them after constellations, or astronomical phenomena (supernova, eclipse, etc)?

Idk I'm just spitballing here. But if the current houses are holding people back like this thread indicates, popping a different, more Arcane set of names into the system could be just what they need to increase participation. Something to hold a few flight polls about, at least.

So, did someone take criticism of the Arcane house cup to the salt mine? Seeing as there's now a mod whining about Harry Potter being a banned topic?

idk if you mean something/somewhere besides SMR because there's literally just a post that says harry potter is a banned topic, with no additional commentary

They usually just delete banned topics without acknowledging, which is their policy.

That post is an active complaint, when they could and should delete as usual.
