Thank you, I think it was FinalDrakenStar.

I haven't seen the actual message, and it probably isn't edited.

I am pretty sure that Aequorin got involved because the FDS one was edited in a way that got a lot of people upset and panicking on the forums, so the staff wanted to nip that as soon as they could.

I've played a lot of games. Usually the fastest way to get verbally smacked down is to lie about a ban in a way to scare players off.

Even companies like Blizzard will step in for that.

I am a goody two shoes, and don't get banned, nor do I tend to interact with users beyond general 'hey' and 'wanna trade' type deals.

But it makes sense that companies would not want people to lie about why they got banned. That is most likely one reason why most games I have seen have a 'don't talk about moderation' rule, because the staff can't really talk about the moderation without revealing things that shouldn't be, so the user can pretty much say what they want, and twist things to their own bias.

Here is the catch: the moment a user starts lying about why they got banned in a way that can hurt business, suddenly, they have a lot more wiggle room to talk.

Microsoft used to have a forum where they outright posted stuff like "you were banned because your avatar is hacked to be bright blue" and "your son was banned for exposing himself while playing uno". It was a comedy goldmine.

That sounds like something I would have loved to read :D

But yeah, I tend to take what people say with a grain of salt, especially when they are talking about reasons why they were punished.

I have seen very very very few people who have said 'yeah, I was banned for RMT trading. Oh well!' (there are some, but generally few of them will). Instead it is 'I was banned for cross site trading!' or 'I was banned for gifting my friends too much!'.
