I'm not going to stop using it, but sadly, I will no longer be linking to it in my shop.
Mods are straight up removing the links- and breaking formats in the process. I spent WAY TOO LONG on my shop coding for mousemod to come in there like a bull in a china shop and shit all over my floor.
its a convenient tool but i dont want to support a brat that thinks throwing a fit and going "nuh uh" to staff's requests is fine. staff didnt need to ask him to align his site with their ToS, they were incredibly generous with that warning. but, like all other dramamongers, he went to salt blogs to stir shit.
To be honest Nensec reeks of the 'I do this for my JOB, so therefore I know EVERYTHING about this subject and you OBVIOUSLY aren't as smart as you think you are' attitude that some people get.
Even if he wasn't scraping at first, he could have changed it to make people simply upload all images required (ie upload a skin and upload the dragon image) (also, I haven't been to the site, so I don't know exactly how it works) and that would have been that.
Instead he wanted to 'show the staff up' because obviously they don't know how the tool works, and what scraping is /s and get into an argument.
Then when staff didn't immediately fall overthemselves to apologize, he threw a hissy fit.
Sadly, though, you have too many people who are of the thought 'staff are big meanies who hate skinmakers'.
What immediately made me suspicious that he was always scraping is the part where he was saying 'so like a browser'? when his tool is NOT a browser. It is a third party site that pulls images from FR's site.
this is so hilarious, i love it. how can anyone write such a ridiculous and stubborn mail exchange and then think it's a good idea to upload it online?? does nensec really think showing this mail exchange is in their favor?
what is it with FR players and uploading "defending" screenshots that make them look even worse lmfao. i swear this happens at least once every few months
LMFAO they're even actively circumventing FR blocking their site too, check the tumblr. Literally trying to get people warned. Because...why else you circumventing the FR site block on your link.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I saw him have a shitfit either on one of the salt blogs or on his own blog, I can't quite recall, and while everyone was praising him and stuff, I only thought, "isn't this a little ridiculous?" If you don't follow the ToS, you'll get banned. Why even attach your tool to your actual FR name if you didn't care about the ToS/what staff thought anyway? You're just asking to get banned at that point.
The tool is great and all but yeah, I really dislike how he's responded to staff... reacting in accordance to their ToS? Like any other company would? The ToS that you agree to follow when you make a FR account? Idk, it just feels like he thought he'd be placed above the ToS or something based on some tool he made.
frtools is the tumblr name. Talking about this post: https://frtools.tumblr.com/post/686120557397311488/ok-i-lied-i-did-make-a-change-to-make-things-work
If people shouldn't be posting it on FR, there's no reason to try yo *make* it work on FR.
I went to the tumblr and looked at the description of the tool, and skin makers already have to upload the image of the skin, so why couldn't nensec just tell people 'hey just upload the image of your dragon that you get from the dragon page or scrying workshop'.
Sure you might have people who would input dragons and try to use the wrong skins, or images that weren't dragons, but if the tool just overlays the skin over the dragon, why does it HAVE To pull from FR servers...
Also, that last line of yours is exactly what I feel. He honestly does give me vibes of 'i am so smart, I do this for a living, this measly little petsite should be GREATFUL that I am deigning to do this in the first place.'
Yeah, I predict this is going to either blow over completely or it is going to blow up with a lot of people getting warned/banned for using this tool.
Which, I honestly don't feel sorry for most of them. I just feel sorry for the few people who don't realize that the tool is not allowed on site and use the link without realizing what nensec is doing is SHADY AS HELL.
To my understanding it is now spoofing a link, to make it look like the link directs to FlightRising itself, but instead takes people off site. Sure, nensec *might* be trustworthy, but that is NOT going to end well.
"so why couldn't nensec just tell people 'hey just upload the image of your dragon that you get from the dragon page or scrying workshop'."
At this point, I think it's a pride issue. From what I've seen, it's likely that Nensec is just too stubborn and full of himself to lower his head to staff, because he's above that, I guess? So of course, he's going to try to play semantics and go for any solution BESIDES the obvious one to drag himself down, and everyone who follows him/uses his tool (without paying attention to what the tool actually does) down with him.
Because casting your ego aside and *gasp* listening to staff is much worse then the alternative, which is to get unknowing people in trouble due to your own problems.
Yeah, the peoptwgo thought it was fine from all the people using it are the real losers here. Saw a few people get tripped up that way. Meanwhile this clown just gets shadier and more trouble making. Swear he's baiting people at this point.
ohhh this is the skeeviest shit ever. that's the same practice that more advanced phishing scams use. nope! don't trust nensec one bit. fuck that. dude goes on my shitlist specifically.
Doubt it. Most of the "changes" in the Developer Update were cosmetic. It's why I do private auctions now. Better multiple PA's than losing track of which item I did or did not attach.
It's blowing my mind that they uploaded this as their defense, and that people have read it and are on their side. All they had to do was make a version of the tool where the user had to download the image from FR and upload it into the tool. Instead they threw a hissy fit at staff for telling them to change the tool and then got :pikachu surprised face: when they got banned after telling staff they were going to keep breaking the rules. What exactly did they think staff was going to do with that information?
My dude if you really want to help the community then change the tool so there's no chance of FR staff getting on the case of people caught using it.
