Since this post will be current until January, thought I'd be salty/have fun with it. Let's see if we get Bingo, shall we?

Re: Discord Drama! Adult Content Channel Requiring Real ID?

It's probably just a deterrent to minors, if someone's so dead set on it that they'd fake or steal an ID to get in then they'd do anything so nothing will be fool proof. It's easier to make up a date and type it in than to go through the EFFORT to fake or steal an ID.

But it adds risk that I don't see as justified by that deterrent factor. There are identifying details on ID that are not names, photos and addresses, even aside from the metadata issue Netsec Anon pointed out.

There’s not even that much effort needed - you can Google your country/state ID, get pictures of IDs, and block out everything but the DOB. If all they’re really looking at is the DOB, then I doubt these discord mods are checking every ID they get to see if it’s just a edited one found online. The only real bit of effort is making sure you find one with a feasible birth year, and thats a minimal level of effort. To say nothing of the fact things can be photoshopped.

If a method is that easily circumvented while still carrying a not insignificant level of risk for those that do submit their actual IDs, is it actually worth it to implement over less invasive options?
