Honestly, flair looks kind of halfassed on the manes of any breed other than obelisk. While I hate how this is being put to us, I think the other breeds might benefit. Tundras are boring with it now.

Just because you think it looks boring doesn't mean players haven't been using that boring version too - all in all, it will just be the same problem as now, just the affected breed will change. It's plain manipulation tactic by staff, confusing wording so that at least some players don't understand what they vote for and mandatory changes for the sake of changes: in the end it will just lead to another passive-aggressive post by acorn in the tone of 'but you chose it yourself, we cannot be blamed by what the players chose :)'.

At least this finally killed any shred of leftover guilt I had from not buying gems and using ad-blocker to block all ads on FR.

This is basically my reaction every time the inevitable 'it's just a dumb dragon game, why do you care so much?' bit is trotted out.

Because...yeah? It's a dumb dragon game and we're here because we're bored and don't have more fulfilling/enriching things to do with assorted chunks of time. All of us. Everybody on the site and most especially those who seek out offsite communities. That's hardly a big secret or a gotcha point in an argument.

But I don't see as how it makes much difference whether you do FR-related timekilling by coli grinding, designing outfits, snickering over petty drama, or analyzing/hypothesizing how the site could be differently run. It's all pretty much equally pointless, none of those choices more noble than any other. So yeah, I make word-vomity posts about site design and user behavior. (Self-evidently.) Because I have rather little brain->keyboard filter when there's an outlet to anonymously spew such, so why not indulge myself?

That doesn't mean I'm lapsing into actual depression over the possibility of irritating security measures (yes, I'm the yappy anon in that thread) or flair gene changes. (Albeit I'm rather grateful I'm so behind on breeding projects using previous genes I haven't even considered seeking out any dragons with flaunt/flair yet.)

you can care deeply about something without going into melodramatic public rants about it. i never said "hurhur look at this idiot playing a dragon game" because of course i also play and enjoy it. i just think you're being dramatic, which is why i called you dramatic.

Not the anon you were calling dramatic at first, as it happens, but my opinion happens to be the corollary of what you're stating - it is possible to post long ranty screeds about things without caring deeply about them. Descending to actual attacks on the staff or other players is a different matter, but rambling editorials are just the form some peoples' thoughts take. (I do the same on television show forums on occasion, for example, and can assure you my actual life is never impacted by the contents of those topics any more than it is by these.)

Also, if you don't like staff decisions to the point where you aren't willing to support the site to help it stay open to play on, why not leave?

The fact is, if you buy gems off players or do any business in gems, you're encouraging other players to pay the site for gems instead. You're not making that strong a statement.

Irony is telling me I'm dramatic for refusing to directly pay a site for decisions I don't like yet in the same breath telling me to leave as if 'slamming doors' isn't a classic overdramatic teenage tantrum - you're not making that strong of a statement either.

I honestly think the not spending money and blocking adds to spite staff while staying is more of a teenage tantrum.
