BINGO

Since this post will be current until January, thought I'd be salty/have fun with it. Let's see if we get Bingo, shall we?

(Anonymous) 2021-12-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)That is why I said that the original issue with the slurs etc.. wasn't that important to me, since things can get out of hand. I will say that theoretically, you should try to get people who have different enough schedules to make sure there isn't a huge gap of time when no one is going to be online.
That said, again, it is better in theory than practice, since you need to trust the people, and you can't always guarantee that you will have enough people from different time zones/with different schedules to fill those roles.
But again, as I said in the other post, to me, the issue is around the auction issue, and not with the slur thing, because that was taken care of. The auction thing, as I have said before, just went over the top, on a public (I assume that it is public, I don't use discord, but can't you make a server 'private' where you can only join by invite? I know other places used to have things like that) server. Venting of that sort should have been in 'private' where it can be guaranteed that everyone being vented to is on the same page.
It also concerned me because what happened is exactly something I would have done, and I am sure there are plenty other people who would have done the same things, especially on an auction where no one else bid. To see someone saying the things I saw in the screenshots (even if there were 'jokes' in between and other things) about something that I feel is pretty common behavior for many people, just made me want to go 'ughh'.
I will say it did make me change my mind about all the 'give us an auction mechanic!' suggestions, so there is that :P
Re: Dakkokki vs TheSaltyObelisk
(Anonymous) 2021-12-05 07:05 am (UTC)(link)Anyways, the new server ( FR, not taxidermy ) does have mods in different timezones, seeing as it's a public one. ( The taxidermy one was a private server, hence why the mods were all people I knew irl )
But yeah, the auction thing was me venting mostly bc I was angry, to be honest, more at myself than anything. But seeing as the server is adults only, I was in the state of mind that "this won't be blown out of proportion and people will understand that this is venting" but apparently not lmao. ( Though it still irks me that people are saying I implemented the no screenshots rule to cover my own ass when it was actually put into place because multiple people were having anxiety attacks and expressed concern, but that's a whole other ballgame )
And god no, please no auction mechanic, that sounds like a nightmare in and of itself, especially when things go wrong.

(Anonymous) 2021-12-05 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)However, considering that what you were doing could have led to a targeted harassment campaign or people blocking someone because of your own failure as an auctioneer, among other things? You reaped what you sowed, dude. You deserved every insult for tantrum worthy of a bratty kid in a grocery store being told no.
Honestly, I'd prefer an automated system, because then it'd put the onus on auctioneers to do it right and would make it so you couldn't back out of your own screw up like you childishly considered from what I saw.
Re: Dakkokki vs TheSaltyObelisk
(Anonymous) 2021-12-05 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)Venting is fine, as long as it is 'private' or can't be traced back to a specific person if it is public. (note, by venting, I am talking about where the other user hasn't done anything wrong, just something the venting user didn't like)
I am pretty sure that most people did understand it was venting, I know I did. But, it was still over the top, and in a place where random people could see it. Even if the rule is that it is adults only, unless you knew everyone personally, you couldn't be guaranteed that it was adults only, and honestly, many adults can be worse than minors with things like dogpiling someone.
That is why I said what you were saying should have been in a private channel, or only to people you knew would be okay with that type of venting. Because, apparently someone in the server *wasn't* okay with that type of venting.
As for the auction mechanic, I always felt like that, that it would be a huge nightmare to try to implement because the 'rules' for auctions can be dependant on a variety of things, and not all auctions are for pure currency.
But, like the other anon, you talking about 'backing' out was what made me change my mind, especially since it was over a price you had set. I don't know FR's stance on auctions, so I don't know if that would have been an actionable offense or not (another site I play, I believe it would have been. I *think* they have a rule where if you set up an auction, you are supposed to go through with it, and aren't allowed to cancel, once it is set up, but not sure. It could just be that once the auction is finished, you are meant to 'keep your promise' by honoring the auction)
(I know what you mean about not knowing how to use the site, I can barely navigate as well, as I am not a regular user here)

DW/LJ were preferred bc not only can you be anonymous, but moderators can freeze/delete/screen comments to keep the communities SOMEWHAT sane.
I honestly cannot imagine running an anon community on tumblr. It's impossible to contain/organise the same way as it is here.
