i was never sure why you guys believe anyone on the internet when it comes to age.

1. its ableist as fuck to assume because they're older, they have the cognitive ability of someone that age. someone can be 22 and have the developmental ability of a 10 year old. they may be on the autistic spectrum. they might have a brain injury. it could be literally anything?

and

2. it could be a kid that is lying about their age. cmon now everyone here is guilty or knows of someone who clicked that "yes I'm 18+" when they definitely were not. there are lots of kids on flightrising who say they are older to avoid COPPA laws as well.

I always tend to take ages with a grain of salt, and treat people based on how they act. They act mature, who cares if they say they are 13. If they don't, I don't care if they are supposed to be 100, they are still acting immaturely.

This is why I hate it when people go 'have you ever thought they are 15! they are just a KID!' or 'I bet they are 13' when someone brings up a player who is being annoying or actively doing something against the rules.

Like FDS, everyone was like 'oh they are just a kid' and got really upset when they were locked for spam. (and understandably upset that maybe they weren't allowed to role play out side of the correct forums). Then it came out that FDS had deliberately manipulated the screenshot to say spamming, when they were actually banned for multiaccounting, and suddenly there were no more 'but he is just a kid!' when his antics were brought up.

For one, I don't believe that being young is an excuse or 'get out of trouble free card' when it comes to some things (some things are more understandable when the people are young, whether physically or mentally, and harassment is never okay, period.), and I also don't automatically believe it when someone says they are 'x' just to get a pass on something. Whether it be age, mental illness, physical ability etc..

NAYRT, but if I shrug someone off as a kid, it's not because I think it's an excuse for their behaviour so much as I don't want to be the kind of person who yells at children on the Internet. They may well be still in the wrong, but it's just not my business.

Most of the time, these people aren't 'yelling at children' but rather complaining about it on blogs like DR and the Saltmines, and here. Many times, these people haven't even posted on site to the person in question, they just want to vent.

To me, I think the issue is that the 'but they might be a *kid*!' sounds a bit too close to 'kids will be kids' that is often used to excuse behavior that SHOULD be stopped.

Also, as an aside, I thought I once found a place that said, but can't find it now, but what do the acronyms NAYRT and the like mean (I am pretty sure they are about replying and identifying people, but acronyms and me? Not friendly at all)

Thank you, I knew OP, but Nayrt and Ayrt always throw me for a loop trying to figure out what they meant. (I could guess that YRT was you replied to, but the first letter or two didn't make sense)
