An IRL auction site I'm on recently implemented the "X minutes are added to the final time when a late bid is made", so an auction runner could apply that personal rule too, to make sure that the item actually goes to the person who is willing to pay the most (which is the point of auctions). If the auction runner hasn't implemented that kind of rule, it's on them imo

That's what snipe guards typically are. Most on site auctions have them. But the auction that started this had a single late bidder at SB. It's just apparently they didn't set the starting bid high enough in hopes of a bidding war.
