Yeah, I was quite willing to give them the benefit of a doubt (that they regretted setting the SB so low, and made a complaint, and it got blown out of proportion), because I honestly do get 'seller's remorse', where I felt like I could have gotten more than I did.

But, ultimately that is on me. It is on the seller to make sure they set prices they are comfortable with selling at.

The posts I saw, even if they had 'jokes' cut out, still went way beyond being upset, especially the part about the 'lost' profit. Because no, apparently no one was interested in said dragon, except one person, so there was no 'profit' lost, because no one apparently wanted to buy it (at least at that particular time) for higher than the SB.

It is like, to me, the people who complain about 'lost profits' with items that they 'invested' in and something happens to make that item devalue. No you didn't lose profits, you lost potential profit.

You bring up a good point, anon. The staff is always caught in a cyclical backlash between people who want more traditional fest themes and people who want more out of the box ideas. There's no winning for them, I guess, but I think there had to be a better way to do it for this year than to make 99% of the skins rock themed and the apparel not earth themed in the slightest.

Let's manifest some apparel for Arlo's feature together, eh? The thought never crossed my mind because I've never seen any trading post feature npc get introduced with apparel.

I had an auction sell disappointingly low once. I learned I'm no good at running auctions, and I was dumb to set it so low. But I didn't do this over it.

Mind, cheaper dragon, but yea.

Also, with their bank amount shown... No pity at all.

Dakkokki vs TheSaltyObelisk

https://the-salty-obelisk.tumblr.com/post/667809599217418240/isnt-d-from-earth-one-of-those-ones-that-was

This escalates way further into rule-breaking accusations later on, but the early parts are regular wankery.

Giving them both the wanker crown for all this and enjoying some popcorn TBH, though I do think Dakkokki is much worse, and personally find his "I just made a salt server and fell asleep, it's not my fault my friends dropped the hard R, though I'm still mad at the person who shared screenshots of that for some reason" shit extremely disingenuous.

Obelisk is just exactly as salty as they say, so, points for honesty I guess.

I've wondered this too, it seems like honestly all but the last day of an auction is just an advertising period.

I don't do a ton of auctions, I'm poor and not into G1s, but what is stopping people from just waiting to bid rather than getting in a bidding war?

Say, if I see someone bid against me twice on day one of a week long auction, why would I not sit on it for a week? There seems to be nothing preventing that. Snipe guards only prevent sniping, not waiting for day zero, and almost everyone asks for an LDP.

IDK, it's a weird system! It has to cater to a much smaller crowd than a regular auction site, but it's also online so you can't operate the same way an IRL auction might, which is often fast and means to build tension (at least for lower priced goods, animals or large volumes of cars, not top end fine art etc).

So yeah, while it's normal to set a starting bid under your reserve price in those kinds of auctions, it clearly doesn't work so well in FR. But I can't see how someone bidding the price on offer is cheating if the seller put it too low.

IDK, I've worked real world auctions but I'm totally disengaged from FR ones so this is fascinating to me, sorry for the TL;DR.

TBH I find the whole taxidermy server story really shady and, I, for one, am incredibly thankful to the user who "leaked" the screenshots, I'd hate to interact with those people. That said, I did have a nice time reading through all of that and it's honestly funny to me that Dakkokki is throwing hands at an account made for interacting with a drama blog.

I do not do auctions as I tend to want the items now, rather than waiting, and I also hate bidding (not so much the bidding, but having to sit there and make sure to out bid the person who bid over you etc...)

I think online auctions tend to be different slightly than offline, because most auctions I think about in real life are usually an hour (at least it seems that way, again, not an auction person), so of course people are going to bid and bid fast.

Online auctions that last a week? or more? You can bet I am not going to encourage someone else to get into a bidding war with me by bidding early. It doesn't really make sense, except from the 'hope no one else bids, want to bid now so I don't forget to bid' way.

Because, I do agree with you, it makes more sense to wait. The only thing I can think of is the whole 'I might forget to bid later, so want to get my bid in now' thing. Or maybe hoping that the seller will end early?

All in all, it still sounds like the seller was hoping for a bidding war on 'the perfect halloween baby' and extremely disappointed that only one person was interested.

In fact, thinking about it, I have always been somewhat against FR creating a 'auction mechanic' as they seem to work just as well through the forums, but this is making me change my mind, especially seeing the person 'joking' that they wanted to cancel the auction and/or not send the dragon over to the player, because they didn't get what they wanted, and that they were disappointed when they pointed out the 'true value' of the dragon and the player didn't 'tip' them an extra 5K *gems*.

Re: Auction etiquette

This is basically what happens. I might offer starting bid on the auction if it wasn't taken, but usually I wait to bid. Because the last day gives you a good idea how much funds you might need.

Hell, I have won fully gened gen ones with marketplace genes for 30 gems by keeping bids quiet like that.

Yeah, I understand that. I personally would like to see maybe one fest cycle like one apparel that is 'traditional' and one that isn't.

As for the NPCs, I don't know whether Arlo will get introduced with it, but I know Swipp had some you could trade for (just random, not really oriented towards a trader theme) and Baldwin has some in his recipes, that are more oriented towards 'scientist' so I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that Arlo could have some apparel, and have it be more archaeological themed. (I don't know if they were introduced with the apparel, as I can't remember, but I know they have some now, so at least there is the ability to add some to it even if it isn't there at the beginning)

But, I will try to manifest some :) I would love some more archaelogical stuff as well.

Did I miss where this hard R was dropped? Was it in the screenshots of Dakkokki and crew being shitty towards the person that SB on the double white gen 1? I skimmed through a lot of those messages so I must have missed it unless this was a separate instance.

Also, speaking of Dakkokki, he keep commenting on posts sent to drama blogs about how cross site trading is fine if both sites are okay with it. True, but apparently it's not okay for one of the sites that he was cross site trading with: https://dramarising-replacement.tumblr.com/post/668486816604848128/if-you-guys-havent-been-following-the-d-from See the comments.

Separate instance. Dakkokki made a Discord with a salt channel, after the Plague server wouldn't allow pictures of animal bones being cleaned.

According to him: "For some fucking reason when I made the salt channel they went OFF thinking that they were allowed to say whatever they wanted and dropped slurs left and right, of which I was asleep and couldn’t do anything about it until it was too late. Needless to say, all of them were immediately booted because uh fuck that shit. But anyways, they then made their own server and it got worse, I have no idea what went on in the sub-sub server but all I know is it was fucked up"

https://anonrerising.dreamwidth.org/1136.html?thread=339056

Screenshots of, I think, mostly the server they made after being banned from Dakkokki's, but there are two that I know are in Dakkokki's. And in that server, the N word was posted multiple times and deleted, according to those screenshots, without any other action that's stated. It wasn't one time while Dakkokki was asleep.

OC commissions

(Anonymous) 2021-11-24 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone done OC commissions on FR? How did it go? I am interested in getting some done because I have gems and would not rather spend IRL money.

Re: OC commissions

(Anonymous) 2021-11-24 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Most of my OC commissions went great! Except for one. I commissioned them because I saw that they were highly active on FR, literally just finished a batch of commissions and I felt safe to commission them. 6 months ago I commissioned them and despite my gentle pokes i havent gotten more than a WIP sketch. I did tell them to take their time and even gave them a tip on top of that since I forsaw my commission was going to come out banging given their history with other customers. I poked them multiple times since then every couple of months but they don't answer any of my mail anymore. They are still active on FR with fed dragons and forum posts.

So, it's always a gamble unfortunately. I liked to think I was pretty savvy when it came to buying art and seeing the red flags but you never know when an artist might be suddenly become rogue lmao

Re: OC commissions

(Anonymous) 2021-11-24 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt, do you mind naming the artist? I get a lot of oc commissions and have gotten shorted before so I try to be wary.

Re: OC commissions

(Anonymous) 2021-11-24 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
by this do you mean commissioning artwork of an OC, or commissioning them to create an OC?

Re: OC commissions

(Anonymous) 2021-11-24 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
ive bought around 40+ commissions of a furry OC. no idea on the kind of OC you have, but one of the challenges i'd face would be with artists' limitations on character types. a notable amount of artists draw FR dragons for FR currency, but require RL currency for everything else.

outside of that, it can sometimes be a bit hit or miss with timelines. professional artists with good time-management and dedicated progress tracking apps like trello usually take USD exclusively, given their skills, time commitment, and marketability. the more casual artists on FR sometimes require a bit of poking or checking in to make sure that the work is completed.

in general i recommend only commissioning artists who have offsite contacts or galleries. it lets you get a better feel for their art style and if they stop using FR it gives you a contact for a check-in or refund. ive had a few commissions done by people who left the site after i paid, leaving me with nothing.

Re: Gem scalpers

Suspense as seen in the wanker thread. Randomly shorting users "if I need to use a calculator" with a 1:1000 rate and demanding tips. They shorted someone that ordered 1000 gems by sending 999g. (It's not a tip if required, also. It's a payment. Just make a higher rate over 1k gems, dumbass)

1.5 mil gems at the very least. it's been a long time since one has sold for just currency though
