BINGO

Since this post will be current until January, thought I'd be salty/have fun with it. Let's see if we get Bingo, shall we?

Anyone one know a good way of selling thousands of gems? I'm trying to sell like 20,000.

(Anonymous) 2021-11-13 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
if you post them on item sales with a good rate (check what others are selling for before deciding!) they'll probably go pretty fast, either in a couple big lots or a few smaller lots. good luck non!

(Anonymous) 2021-11-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Just put up an Item Sales thread with the conversion rate and instruct people to send a CR for however many they want. Include that you're willing to sell up to 20k so people know they can request a lot at once.

Auction etiquette

So... After all that I've seen on the saltmine, I have to ask: is jumping into an auction with no bids on the last day really a big deal? I do it frequently after requesting LDPs because I actually hate bidding wars and will avoid dragons others bid one unless I can't live without it.

I've gotten some amazing bargains that way(mind, I'm not going after high value stuff like doubles, just pretty gems.)

I'm doubtless a horrible person, but if I really wanted a dragon, hell yes I would wait till the last possible minute to bid. I don't want to contribute to a bidding war taking it out of my price range, and I don't want to lose it to someone with deeper pockets. If the seller wants to ensure that only the most sincere bidder in the pumpkin patch gets it, they can institute a 24-hour snipe guard or whatever.

DA I usually keep an eye on the interested bidders, and if i see one too many names that are either interested or actively bidding that i know have very deep pockets (or pockets that are much much much deeper than mine lol) then i either give up entirely or wait until the last minute. 9/10 times though if it's rich people bidding i just give up bc i know i won't be able to compete. But i don't really....i don't really feel like waiting until the last minute is scummy, if there aren't any other bids yet. If someone else has bid though it's not necessarily scummy but i do kind of side eye people that do that, just because you had literally all week or however long the auction is to bid, why would you wait until the last possible minute?

What.

That's the one of the points of LDPs, to notify interested players if they want to join on the last day, the "LD" of the LDP??? Who's the baby complaining about that, tell me, don't want to accidentally join their auction.

Re: Auction etiquette

(Anonymous) 2021-11-13 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt there's a difference between the last day and the last minute which is what said, that i kinda side eye people who don't bid until the last minute on the last day of auction, but only if there's already been other people bidding on it. idrc if there's been no bids and someone bids at the last minute, good for them! and honestly i don't really care all that much if other people have bid and they swoop in last minute either, but it does irk me a tiny bit.

Re: Auction etiquette

(Anonymous) 2021-11-13 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT - Personally I'd treat both last day and last minute bids and out-bids the same because that's what 'snipe guards' are for because if you run an auction until a certain time, well, why shouldn't the players be able to bid until that time? As an example, one of my dragons came from an auction where I outbid two other players I think an hour before the week-long auction's end time because I simply didn't see the auction earlier (and they were playing around with minimum 10g increases, ffs). Hell, I was also on the other side too where someone outbid me when I was sleeping - sure it sucks but the rules were clear: you can bid until a certain time, so why be annoyed when players do exactly as is written? (not pointed at you exactly, but more in general)

Yeah, no, the auction runner definitely overreacted. I do think the current model for auctions on FR kind of sucks though because of things like this. Almost no one bids until the last day, snipe guards that are an hour or two are basically meaningless for people who don't refresh FR all day, people still think auctions are some magical way to drum up interest in their half-decent XYZ G1s. (Okay, that last one isn't a structural issue, just another pet peeve of mine.)

I wish offer threads were more popular. Or that bidders would bid in higher increments or place bids earlier on in auctions if they really want to secure what they're bidding on.

has anyone commissioned them that lurks here? I've seen some people recommend them, but from what i have heard in the past, they can take a while on their paintings. Do they really ship them out to you? It would be nice to have an actual physical painting but i wouldn't want to commission if anyone had bad experiences with them... I think i am just paranoid from bad experiences in the past with some artists.

I admit, I despise offer threads. Because I never know what to offer and I worry I'll get blocked for an offer I think was fair

Personally, I don't think it's bad to bid at last day/minute, it's mainly what the LDP and snipe-guard are for, but what I think SHOULD be Auction Etiquette is the seller setting the SB for a price they'd be happy to let that dragon go for, I don't care if it feels too expensive like that, it's better to not have anyone buy it than feeling like people are lowballing you.

As someone who's been in the CS scheme for a while, she's been brought up plenty of times on salt blogs for being bitchy and arrogant (I would be arrogant too if I was anywhere near as rich on CS as her though, tbh), but no real major drama as far as I'm concerned.

An IRL auction site I'm on recently implemented the "X minutes are added to the final time when a late bid is made", so an auction runner could apply that personal rule too, to make sure that the item actually goes to the person who is willing to pay the most (which is the point of auctions). If the auction runner hasn't implemented that kind of rule, it's on them imo

While I personally haven't commissioned them--I'm paranoid about giving my irl address out while I live with others--I have multiple friends who have commissioned them and got it shipped to them, no problem! They're asleep atm, but I'll link them here so they can give you more details about their experience if they want to.

if you are a bitch to others because you are rich on a petsite or 2, well you can't be a good person in my view

what's the point of being arrogant/bitchy just because you're pixel rich? :(

The paintings take a while to finish because paintings in general take a long time to finish. And they do ship out to you, I have mine on my bedside shelf rn! Definitely recommend them

YOO so i went digging and found some tea from 2 years ago. archived because idk how chickensmoothie blogs run their stuff:

https://web.archive.org/web/20211114135002/https://chickensmooshit.tumblr.com/post/182902679920/submission-from-blackmarket-user

apparently they collect 'skelebuns' and were planning on selling them for gems to transfer to money on the black market for a house. in the comments, shian confirms this and doesn't deny or refute the claims. i'm still digging deeper but this is very interesting. on multiple cs blogs there are mentions of shian's use in the black market

moving this over to wanker thread now. just posting an update ^^"
