Love is in the Air....

(Source- and additional Valentine's here!)

Edit: I have updated the rules:

ADDENDUM TO RULE THREE (3): Because I do NOT want another instance of shit that happened this month, and the shit that happened in @anonrising, Fandom Politics are NOT ALLOWED. This includes, but is not limited to:
  •          Anime
  •          Fanfiction/Fanart
  •         Anti/Proshipping war bullshit
*These subjects almost inevitably bring up Anti/Proship bullshit and there are folks on both sides who might be triggered by certain content, or feel dismissed by various argument points on both sides. As a result, THEY ARE  NOT ALLOWED. This site is for DRAGON DRAMA, not your Pro/Anti shipping bullshit. Take it to fandomwank or fandom_secrets or whatever other platform they're using nowadays.

Illegible Nature Headers

I am just... who signed off on these headers? It's super hard to read them and even knowing what they're supposed to say doesn't help...
screenies:

like I know that one of them says 'Nature' but oh dear is it hard to read...

-squints-

I cannot read the bottom image on the first link. What is it SUPPOSED to say????

AYRT

I think (THINK) it's supposed to say 'Shrieking Wilds Scouring'? Not sure why/what it's supposed to mean, but it's the closest I can see it mean

+1

I got the ping for this and stared at that title in utter confusion. I got the "Shrieking Wilds" part immediately but even after clicking on the thread and finding out the last word was "Scouring", I still interpret it as "Scraping" or "Stomping". The fact that the art is covering up essential parts of letters isn't exactly helping, either.

It's clearly Shrieking Wilds Souping. We're all gonna get together and throw ingredients in a Baldwin-esque cauldron (but only food, none of the non-edibles), and it's gonna overflow and we'll have to be throwing soup at all the other flights because we just have Too Much.

Me too :( I think it says "Nature IF raffle"?

Though I admit that I'm saying this a white person, but my eyebrow is raised over the choice in script not only due to its accessibility, but also as it looks more than a little "stereotypical unreadable pseudo-Chinese script". I mean, the whole crow racism drama seemed a little overblown to me but this? It looks like a cliche example of what not to do, you know, don't call your OC "Ching Chang", don't make them say random foreign sounding words and don't use vaguely Chinese looking symbols randomly...

The second image does.

At least the OOF-PB headers are all legible in a non-offensive way.

I just snooped after the artist and if their twitter bio is anything to go by, they're a white middle-aged mom from the Bay area (their twitter is linked on their profile, so I didn't actually dig deeply or anything)

who cares if they're a white middle-aged mom from the Bay area, their only sin here is that they do not have a passion for graphic design (or at least shouldn't quit their day job for it because damn I can barely read that shit as a person with 20/20 vision)

If it was actually readable it would look amazing regardless of how the person who made it is.
It being unreadable is a bad font choice, but if the proper font/size was used, it would look like those amazing asian postcards from places in nature.

And seeing how limited amout of artists that want to help with banners already are, it would suck to have to ask the few that do where they're from just because of a font =_=.

Yes, it's unreadable, and bas font choice, the race of the artist is least of a problem here.

I never said that race of the artist is the issue? I only said that I, as a white person who tries not to be racist, one of things I was always told not to do is to never use random vaguely Chinese-looking symbols just for the aesthetics.

You're right, I wanted to reply to the person below you that went through artists soc to dig dirt.
Sorry nonny, it wasn't directed at you.

Not mad, just confused nonny here. I wonder why the font mimics Chinese characters at all? The way they wrote the letters are clearly supposed to mimic real Chinese characters (like 田 长 and 开). But the rest of their theming is about cats and mice? The year of the mouse/rat was last year, right now it’s the year of the ox.

The closest theme connection I can think of is the spring lantern festival (yuan xiao jie) which happened a few days ago. But that festival is more associated with lanterns and fireworks.
(If you haven’t heard of it before, my parents described the festival as a way for the community to celebrate New Years together after you’ve celebrated it with your family. People go out into the streets at night to visit markets, light fireworks, and watch performances. Lantern and light displays are everywhere and shops will decorate with lanterns to try and entice people to come visit.)

My last guess would be a reference to a folk/fairy tale?

my guess is generic spring theme but the artist wanted to throw in some chinese. i appreciate the effort, but how the hell did nobody, from quality control to thread runner, point out it was illegible????
