Esp considering it says there were other flags like bi, pan, ace. The intent clearly was to have flags for the various identities so it's very strange that lesbians in particular didn't have one.

They said they added them on request basis, and they hadn’t received any requests to add the lesbian one until then. From a discord mod standpoint that makes sense to me, especially when there would potentially be so many unused roles.

I guess by the time someone requested the lesbian role it started the whole discussion on whether or not to have them in the first place.

i do get the request basis in general, but for the first letter of lgbt when adding in other roles/flags? for the flag that is most often forgotten? for such a common orientation? there's lesbians in all my discords, man, if this discord has more than a few people they should expect to have lesbians in the chat. the L, G, B, T roles/flags should've been no-brainers. consider me unimpressed.

(& if they really didn't have lesbians in the chat prior: why didn't they actively make their space welcoming by adding the role/flag?)

i'm not super invested in this or anything. i don't expect excellent moderation/management on a fan server, either. but this is definitely an oversight by that discord's management.

The acronym is literally LGBT/LGBTQ/LGBTQIA+, those are the ones most people know.

Exactly. It's unheard of for an LGBTQ discord to not have any lesbian representation, unless it legitimately has like 10 members.

LGBT flags are standard if they were gonna have flags in the first place. Not "we'll wait for someone to ask for it lol" (and when someone did, it apparently spawned 300 comments' worth of arguing? Why?). Those flags are a given. Like I would be suspicious if I walked into my GSA meeting and all the flags were there except the lesbian one.

I’m not in the server so I have no idea what actually goes on in there, but the impression I got from the original suggestion to add the lesbian role was that there was already an LGBT role and they wanted them to add a lesbian role specifically because LGBT was exclusive to lesbians?
That’s the part that didn’t make sense to me, but would also explain why people hadn’t requested it earlier

once again lesbians are forgotten about and told to be happy with crumbs we get. I'm in a discord server of 8 people and we have a lesbian gay bisexual and trans role even though none of us are trans and we only have one bisexual. the bisexual didnt need to ask for her role to be made and were ready if we ever have a trans member.
really this entire thing is a mess but it does follow an unsurprising trend of lesbians being forgotten about and forced to remind people of existence

I still don't understand why there's so much controversy over this and why OP brought race into it. Just add a lesbian flag. It's not that deep

im just coming into this but im...so confused....i would NOT be comfortable having to out my sexuality on a random discord server why is this person campaigning for it. esp if i was questioning or just overall not certain. yikes.

also this exchange is so baffling:
