accents have always been there, but it easily took them a year until they actually picked off. I got into accents in mid 2014, then it slowly started to actually be a thing and more people invested in them.
i think skins were always less popular than accents, but back then you could only submit full, proper, actual skins to contests. no accents allowed. that changed in the second festival year (2014-15)

different eyecolour won't show up, but it's kinda nice. I do colour them in because I treat the entire accent as a "piece", most of my stuff is very dark so a bright eye feels aesthetically pleasing while working on it. it also only takes like 4 seconds.
