There's nothing baffling if you bother to think for a minute - nothing on your list is immediately visible and only become apparent after a couple of months-years of play, so there's a stable stream of newbies.

And the site has been pronounced 'dead soon' for years by now; the community is on its last legs, with that I agree, but the site itself? Please, even Neopets are still mucking around. FR's problems are too well-hidden for the site to randomly die SoonTM.
