well... Speaking as someone who has severe OCD, when you're addicted to a game 24/7 it's hard to stop playing. Because when it becomes an obsession, it's not just a game. Getting rid of all the rare, expensive and sentimental stuff might be the only way to ensure you lose interest.
I was on hiatus for years, and seriously considered donating everything before it, but my friend convinced me not to. So instead of quitting, I let my friend change the password and keep it away from me until we were both certain I was healthy enough to start playing again.

I've now sold nearly half of what I used have, some really nice (and I do mean NICE) stuff, and the stuff I've kept has more personal than monetary value. It's hard but I have to take every step I can not to let my compulsions ruin the game for me, and to "keep it casual".
