Re: The Dappervolk Summer Event
(Anonymous) 2020-08-29 04:13 am (UTC)(link)The hardest tier of prizes includes a piece of apparel that has a +1 Luck stat point that basically gives you a bigger chance to get rare items in the characters shops, so everyone is gunning for it.
EXCEPT
Okay, so there are 8 "tasks" that you can do over and over to accumulate points, yeah?
Each time you complete a task there is a timer/cooldown until you can do it again.
You complete it, you have to wait 2 hours, 4 hours, etc. depending on the points it awards.
There are a total of 8 different tasks in total, 4 were available when the event started, and the other 4 were revealed and made available one by one, each day
The initial 4 tasks, that you repeat over and over, didn't award many points, so people did the math and realized they would basically have to no life the entire event if they wanted the best prize.
Many people straight up used alarm clocks to interrupt their sleep or just plain didn't sleep.
There was a leaderboard of points that showed that one of the mods was/is participating in the event, and basically raking in points that made one believe they and the people trailing behind weren't sleeping?
Basically it felt like it was impossible to catch up.
The leaderboard was removed.
The last two tasks do award more points, so now the event feels less impossible, but it still has people pointing out that it's punishing to everyone that can't check on mobile if they have work, school. etc.
Adding to the complication, you have to "claim" a task before you actually do it or else the site doesn't award you any points.
This is a problem because some of the tasks are helping specific characters via the website's regular daily quest system. That has a very limited amount of times you can do it. So you can screw yourself out of those points for the entire day if you forget to claim the task.
Same with hatching a pet, the task that gives the most points, it takes like 8-11 hours to hatch an item to get a pet, and there is a notice on top of the site when the item is ready that has you conditioned to go there right away so you can basically screw yourself out of those points if you play normally.
ALSO. The event requires you to be in a certain in-game location to help those characters, and there is a limited amount of times you can change location per day.
The event is giving an extra free pass to the town, but because the tasks that involve the characters are so spaced out in terms of time (2 hours is the shortest), it's very difficult to time things if you want to visit other towns.
Some people straight up aren't playing the game normally, losing on the limited amount of daily in-game currency they could be making to be able to get the prizes.
So really if you want to be efficient without sacrificing sleep, you still basically need log into the site every two hours during your waking hours to do all the tasks available.
The two hours are linked to the server clock, by the way, not the time you claim them or complete them.
You also have to do the math on your own to calculate your progress.
Bonus points for this being the improved version of a similar event in beta. Apparently the top tier prize was awarded to the top 25% of players in the leaderboard. People who played say this one is less stressful?

(Anonymous) 2020-08-29 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)how needlessly complicated... my sympathies
Re: The Dappervolk Summer Event
(Anonymous) 2020-08-29 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)With the time-outs it sounds a bit like Chicken Smoothie events where you can collect festival currency every 20 min or every hour. Except there seems to be a maximum of currency you can collect in total after which a player can't collect anymore, so people are less inclined to actually stay awake all day or idk set alarms during school.
(Also there's no main price, just getting copies of all the pets might be difficult with a full-time job or all-day school.)
But this sounds so stressful...
Not being able to get all festival stuff reminds me of FurVilla. And there I just wanted all festival pets and couldn't get them because it was impossible to breed them. D:
