does anybody else feel like a wanker when they give pricing advice?
i am on sales pinglists for certain niches of dragons & have been in the market for years, so when i see someone pinging the collectors for overpriced dragons, i am compelled to reply with advice. sometimes these people are asking for prices that are WAY above reasonable amounts, so reducing their prices is really the only avenue to getting a sale, but i always read my replies over very carefully before sending because i don't want to come off looking like an asshole. i feel like most people are hesitant to "correct" others like that, though - does it hurt to get pricing advice like this? no matter how politely i phrase it, i feel like it must sting to have someone tell you "yeahhh bud you're gonna be looking at about 50% of the price you're asking for. yup."
what makes me feel like i'm NOT the asshole is that, when i give this advice, it usually stands on its own, meaning that i'm not following it up with an offer to buy the dragon. i just drop info about the market and peace out. i feel like it COULD come off as scummier if i was swooping in with an offer of half as much as their asking price. sometimes i DO see people doing this - correcting a suggested price while ALSO making an offer - so when i see it, i usually try to put my two cents in there as well. like, "i agree with so-and-so that your dragon would be valued around X, rather than your initial X^2 asking price."
like, i know it's helpful to give advice because you're not going to get a sale if you're asking for 3x usual prices - i'm just wondering how it comes off to other people. AITA? ;P
